Theatre By The Sea Presents A CHORUS LINE 6/2
By: Gabrielle Sierra
Theatre By The Sea owner and producer Bill Hanney, Producing Artistic Director Amiee Turner and Managing Producer Joel Kipper are proud to announce the opening of Theatre By The Sea's 77th Season with the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® winning musical A Chorus Line on June 2.
On a bare stage, casting for a new Broadway musical is almost complete. It's what they've worked for - with every drop of sweat, every hour of training, every day of their lives, it's the one opportunity to do what they've always dreamed of - not to be the star, but just to get a job on the line. From funny to heartbreaking, these 17 dancers share the stories of their lives and when they're done, so is the audition, and the final chorus line is chosen. Award-winning music includes "What I Did For Love," "One," and "Dance Ten, Looks Three." A Chorus Line contains adult language and mature content.Ocean State Theatre Company is thrilled to welcome Mitzi Hamilton, who provided the inspiration for the character of Val and performed the role in the original London Company and on Broadway. Ms. Hamilton will restage the original Michael Bennett direction and choreography. She is joined by music director Andrew Smithson, who music directed last season's highly acclaimed productions of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Crazy For You. Producing Artistic Director Amiee Turner, will make her Theatre By The Sea debut in the role of Cassie, with Broadway's Tom Berklund portraying the role of Zach. Local performers include Lauren Coyne of East Greenwich, Andi Flax of Newport, Christine Lariviere of Smithfield and Tom Lavallee of Pawtucket.
