Tender ‘The Notebook’ musical adapts iconic love story to stage
Of the six actors, Sharon Catherine Brown, who played Older Allie suffering from dementia, stood out the most. Brown delivered a flawless performance that accurately depicted the emotional upheaval of losing one’s memory and with it, a sense of self and safety.
Review: Life after Romeo is silly, campy fun in ‘& Juliet’ musical
The backstage concert feeling of the set (Soutra Gilmour), fun neon lighting (Howard Hudson), and mixed era fashions of the glittering costumes (Paloma Young) add to the camp of it all – not to mention the exaggerated French accent from original characters like Lance (Paul Jordan Jansen) that had the audience in stitches.
Review: Powerful ‘Suffs’ musical premieres in San Diego
Taub’s show is a triumph, with an enthralling plot, moving emotional moments and exceptional music and lyricism. The cast and crew carried her vision, with impeccable vocals all around.
Musical comedy ‘Shucked’ delivers sweet corny time
Kyle Sherman stepped in as Beau, the fiancé of leading lady Maizy (Danielle Wade), on the night I saw it, revealing a stunning tenor voice in reaching solos. In fact, all of the solos showcased the talent of the cast in moving yet always funny serenades. Hearing the show’s most famous anthem, “Independently Owned,” from understudy Cecily Dionne Davis, gave me chills. Davis also had great chemistry with conman Gordy, played by Quinn VanAntwerp, who had the same role on Broadway.
‘Some Like It Hot’ musical an utter delight
The tight script shows each of the cast members, well perhaps minus Spats, coming into their power without losing the humor of the original. The character’s triumph is only possible through the triumph of the cast and creative teams who brought it to the stage. “Some Like It Hot” delighted the audience and deserved every ounce of praise it has gotten from critics, audiences and the Tonys if not more.
