Acting Out: From play to Play- This two-day class will explore the incorporation of Forum, Legislative, and Image Theatre (the three main forms of Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed) into both acting and directing techniques, as well as the rehearsal process as a whole, through games, open dialogue, improvisation, and scene/scriptwork.

Led by Ashley Quinones , this class is for actors, directors, or those who aspire to be either (or both)!

*Held from 1:30-4:30 pm on August 15 and 16, 2009, Meymandi Theatre at the Murphy School (please register by August 13)

*You may register for either August 15 or for both days. We will be unable to accommodate requests made for an August 16th only registration.

Ashley Quinones, a third year Burning Coal company member, received her B.F.A. in Theater Arts Performance from Catawba College and her M.A. in Acting from London's The E15 Acting School. She has also studied 'Performing Classic Russian Literature' with The Moscow Art Theatre, Theatre of the Oppressed with Julian Boal and colleagues, and has taken several workshops on radio drama with The BBC. Locally she has performed with Burning Coal Theatre Company, Deep Dish Theatre Company, and Raleigh Ensemble Players and teaches seasonally at North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre.

Burning Coal Theatre Company is Raleigh's small, professional theatre. Burning Coal is an incorporated, non-profit [501 (c) (3)] organization. Burning Coal's mission is to produce literate, visceral, affecting theatre that is experienced, not simply seen. Burning Coal produces explosive reexaminations of overlooked classic and modern plays, as well as new plays, whose themes and issues are of immediate concern to our audience, using the best local, national and International Artists available. We work toward a theatre of high-energy performances and minimalist production values. The emphasis is on literate works that are felt and experienced viscerally, unlike more traditional linear plays, at which audiences are most often asked to observe without participating. Race and gender non-specific casting is an integral component of our perspective, as well as an international viewpoint.
