The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, 91.3 WYEP and the Three Rivers Arts Festival are pleased to announce Raul Malo at 8 pm, Thursday, April 9, 2009, at the Byham Theater in downtown Pittsburgh. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 20, 2009.

Originally making his mark in the county music world and then slipping into the Latin and jazz arenas via rock & roll, Raul Malo has proven to be an ever-expanding musical talent. As front man for The Mavericks from 1989 - 2001, Malo picked up a 1996 Grammy award and multiple Country Music Association awards. He released his first solo album, Today, in 2001.

Malo's 2008 album Lucky One, his first release of all-original material since Today, draws on his deep love of country, rock, jazz and Latin music. Says Malo, "I have been fighting my whole life against people who want to pigeonhole music. I feel like I've got no restrictions anymore. I'm not really writing for any specific genre. I feel like I can do whatever I want."

Lucky One follows You're Only Lonely and After Hours, two CDs of cover songs written by many of Malo's favorite tunesmiths including Kris Kristofferson, Dwight Yoakam, Roger Miller and Willie Nelson.

Tickets for the April 9 performance will be $24.50 - $39.50. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 20, 2009. To purchase tickets, visit the Theater Square Box Office, call 412.456.6666 or buy online at www.pgharts.org.
