The Invisible Theatre’s 54th season continues with Roderick Cook’s OH COWARD! Weaving together songs and literary delights, Oh, Coward! celebrates one of the theatre's greatest entertainers, Noel Coward. His effervescent music and charming quips combine for an unforgettable evening of some of the most memorable tunes of the twentieth century. The cast includes David Alexander Johnston, Jonathan Zenz and Managing Artistic Director, Betsy Kruse Craig assisted by Mickey Nugent. Accompanied by Brad Arington on piano.
This delightfully intimate revue, devised by Roderick Cook, features three performers accompanied by piano. Coward’s songs and sketches about British high and low society, the "theatah", mad dogs, Englishmen, and other noteworthy subjects sparkle with the Master’s dry-as-a-martini wit. Clive Barnes of The New York Times praised the show, describing it as "effortlessly urbane.” Douglas Watt in the New York Daily News hailed it as "an enchanting evening of song and patter... everything is in beautiful order," emphasizing its polished intimacy
A wildly successful playwright, composer, lyricist, librettist, director and actor, Coward did it all with equal skill and abandon. His work and personality enchanted the world for over fifty years from the time he wrote and starred in his first musical at the age of twenty-three. In countless songs, musicals and plays (including the beloved Private Lives and Blithe Spirit), the multi-talented Coward made an indelible mark on the international theatrical landscape with his unique "talent to amuse." For sheer sophistication, style and urbane wit, only Wilde and Cole Porter could touch him. For tickets visit www.invisibletheatre.com or call 520-882-9721.
