ROMEO AND JULIET Fall in Love At Southwest Shakespeare Company for Two More Weekends
Southwest Shakespeare Company (SSC), Arizona's only classical theatre, continues to bring new and exciting ideas to the stage-all while remaining true to each play's original form. The company's upcoming production of Romeo and Juliet is no exception to the rule and the tragic story of young love, torn apart by power and hate, will be enjoyed by audiences of all ages.
With our story's undefined setting, Shakespeare's eternal love song is sung with new time and measure, but with a familiar refrain: "Two households both alike in dignity, in this unfamiliar land, where we lay our scene. New grudge breaks from old mutiny, where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these new foes, a pair of star crossed lovers lose their life: and do with their death bury their parent's strife."
The play runs from January 18 to January 27, 2018. Tickets range from $31-$47. Student matinees are $13 and seniors (55+) have discounted pricing options. 65% of proceeds are donated to the Arizona Humane Society using promo code: "CuddlyCritters".
Call the Box Office at (480) 664-6500 or visit www.swshakespeare.org . Performances take place Thursdays & Fridays at 7:30PM. Saturdays at 2PM & 7:30PM and Sundays at 2PM at the Mesa Arts Center located at One Main Street, Mesa 85201.
Southwest Shakespeare Company (SSC) was founded in 1994 by educators who wanted to create a modern-day people's theatre originally inspired by Shakespeare and his contemporaries, where audience members from all walks of life are encouraged to take an active role through contact with the artists (talk backs, backstage tours, seminars). SSC's mission is to entertain, educate and inspire the public and educational community by exploring the intricacies of language through the vibrant and passionate performance of works of live theatre.
