Twelve Angry Men Tour Stars Speak at The Broad Topic in PA

The new interview series, "The Broad Topic," will be launched with appearances by Richard Thomas and George Wendt, the stars of the national tour of Twelve Angry Men. 

The event will take place on Wednesday, September 27  from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Merriam Theater (250 Broad St.) in Philadelphia.

During The Broad Topic interview session, Richard Thomas (A Naked Girl on the Appian Way, Diplomacy, "The Waltons") and George Wendt ("Cheers," Art) will share conversations about their careers with theater arts students from The University of the Arts and the general public. Gene Terruso, director of the UArts School of Theater Arts, will serve as emcee.    

The national tour of the recent hit Broadway revival Twelve Angry Men, written by Reginald Rose, directed by Scott Ellis, produced by New York's Roundabout Theatre Company, and starring Thomas (Juror #8) and Wendt (Juror #1) runs at the Merriam Theater from September 26 through October 1.

In the show, "a young delinquent awaits sentencing for the manslaughter of his aggressive father.  Twelve jurors are corralled in a room for their deliberations in a murder trial.  One juror feels that there is a 'reasonable doubt' - to the frustration of his eleven colleagues - thereby preventing a quick verdict.  During the heated debate, the hidden preconceptions and assumptions of the jurors are revealed.  When faced with playing the hangman, each juror is forced to face himself."

Modeled after James Lipton's "Inside the Actor's Studio," "The Broad Topic" is a collaborative effort between the Theatre League of Philadelphia of the Merriam Theater and The University of the Arts. The event is free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
