Philly POPS CEO Appointed to Kennedy Center Advisory Committee on the Arts

The White House announced today that Philly POPS President and Chief Executive Officer Frank Giordano will be appointed to the Advisory Committee on the Arts of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Giordano has been the leader of The Philly POPS - America's largest stand-alone pops orchestra - since 2011 and also serves as President and CEO of Atlantic Trailer Leasing Company. He is a resident of Moorestown, New Jersey.

The Kennedy Center's Advisory Committee on the Arts is a national advisory board appointed by the President of the United States. Members are chosen for their knowledge of and experience in the arts. They act as ambassadors to their home states on behalf of the Kennedy Center and its national education and outreach programs. The Advisory Committee on the Arts also advises and consults with the Board of Trustees and makes recommendations regarding existing and prospective cultural activities to be carried out by the Kennedy Center.

Since joining the POPS in 2011, Giordano created a for-profit strategy for a struggling non-profit. He's taken the POPS into unchartered waters with a bright future in a record period of time. He has led the organization to unprecedented success in ticket sales, contributed revenue, community engagement and programming.

POPS engagement activities reach large and growing audiences, primarily through its signature Salute Series, a set of free concerts performed on holidays of civic celebration in honor of the service community, as well as an expanding supplemental music education program for the School District of Philadelphia, POPS in Schools, which reaches 2,000 students.

Giordano's comprehensive history of philanthropy has included leadership roles on many non-profit Boards and personal support of many iconic Philadelphia-area institutions. Many of his efforts have benefited underserved constituencies.

He has served as Chairman of Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia. The Frank and Dottie Giordano Responsibility Scholarship financially supports working Rutgers Camden students while they gain business experience in unpaid internships. As Chairman of the Abraham Lincoln Foundation, he raised $10 million to open the Sir John Templeton Heritage Center. The Center provides the public with access to the Union League's substantial archive of significant historic material.

Giordano has received many honors and awards for his work, including the prestigious Order of the Merit of the Italian Republic by the Ambassador of Italy, the Philadelphia Business Hall of Fame Award, the Philadelphia Music Alliance's inaugural Platinum Award, and a City Council of Philadelphia Citation.

The Philly POPS, the largest standalone pops orchestra in the United States, delights audiences with the inspired performance of American popular music. The POPS celebrates this distinctive musical heritage through an expanding repertoire of innovative concert presentations and a robust set of educational and engagement initiatives.

Now in its 39th season, the official POPS orchestra of Pennsylvania serves a consistently growing audience of over 150,000 annually. Music Director Michael Krajewski and the 65-piece Philly POPS orchestra keeps listeners tapping their toes to an impressive repertoire of songs from American traditions of music up through today's chart toppers. The Philly POPS BIG Band, an 18-20 piece ensemble performing a rock and rhythm and blues repertoire , premiered in 2017 to enthusiastic response at the July 4 Welcome America Concert on the Parkway.

Outside the concert hall, Salute Series performances - including POPS on Independence on July 3 and the I'll Be Home for Christmas: A Salute to the Military and First Responders concert - celebrate the American tradition of service around important national holidays; POPS in Schools enhances music education for Philadelphia School District students; and POPS Outside brings POPS music to local communities.

The Philly POPS performs as a founding resident company of The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, and at venues throughout the mid-Atlantic region.
