PHIT's Kids & Teens Winter Classes Are Filling Up!

In addition to the usual K-12 class offerings, we are excited to offer two new electives for our students in Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-12 in our winter session. These elective classes are in addition to our typical beginner improv offerings for middle and high school students.

Stand-Up Comedy Elective for Grades 6-8PHIT Kids & Teens is delighted to be welcoming LaTice Mitchell-Klapa to our training center as lead instructor in our Stand-Up Comedy Elective. Both LaTice and Lamarr Todd, our teaching assistant for the course, are well-known stand-up comics in the greater Philadelphia area and beyond (LaTice, in particular, has television credits which include The View). We are thrilled to have this dream team together to share their knowledge with our budding middle school comedians.

Improv to Sketch Elective for Grades 9-12. High school students have the opportunity to work with veteran Kids & Teens instructor, Joe Tuzzi, as he and teaching assistant Kelly Conrad, bring their knowledge and experience with sketch comedy to the training center. Students will continue to build on their improv skills, with an eye to expanding and developing their ideas into written comedy sketches that they will perform at the end of the session.

PHIT recognizes that the cost of our Kids & Teens classes can pose a barrier to entry for some of our students and their families. In an effort to overcome this barrier, PHIT will award a number of need-based scholarships to study in our Kids & Teens Training Center in each of our sessions throughout the year.

PHIT's Kids & Teens Scholarships are need-based and open to any family who self-identifies such a need. Because we have a limited number of scholarships, we ask that applicants be mindful of their need when considering submitting an application so that the scholarships we award can be given to students who might not otherwise be able to benefit from our classes without support from the theater. If you feel your family is able to afford half tuition, please make a note of that on the application, as it will allow us to spread the scholarship aid even further.

New for 2018 we are accepting and reviewing scholarship applications on a rolling basis, so you may hear that you have been accepted into the scholarship program sooner! W. May still defer decisions on some applications. All scholarship notifications will go out no later than January 10th, 2018.
