Miro Dance Theatre is about to give a group of Philadephians a chance for glittery ballroom glory with their third annual fundraiser, Cinco De Miro: Not So Strictly Ballroom. At this event, people who have always wanted to dance, but have not had the chance to dance professionally will perform with a professional and compete. Cinco De Miro: Not So Strictly Ballroom will be held Saturday, May 8th at the Latvian Society. Tickets cost $25 and include complimentary hors d'oevers provided by Breath of Life Catering and a cash bar. Tickets are available at http://mirodancetheatre.tix.com. For more information contact events@mirodancetheatre.org or at visit mirodancetheatre.org.

Eight non-dancers are competing with the professional dancers of Miro Dance Theatre and special guests for big prizes and temporary fame, all in the name of philanthropy. Each of the contestants earned $1000 in pledges for Miro Dance Theatre. They will perform in front of three guest judges that include Scott Lazarov of Dance Sport Academy, Lois Welk of Dance USA Philadelphia, and Kitten from The Real Housewives of Philadelphia (aka comedian Alli Soowal). This annual fundraiser supports Miro Dance Theatre events and programs. Contestants are currently learning Swing, Tango, Waltz, and Rumba to entertain audiences at this unique event. The rock band Toy Soldiers and Tess Tickle (the alter-ego of Miro Dancer Paul Struck) best known as the First Lady of Henri David's AnnuAl Halloween ball, will also perform.

Competing in the event is Newtown's Chelsea Davis who is partnered with Meredith Rainey, a former dancer with the PA Ballet. Temple Sophomore Maddy Wendell is living out her "Dancing With the Stars" fantasy with former PA Ballet principal David Krensing. Angelique Guarenghi, of Huntingdon Valley, is dancing with Alexi Borovic, a Russian trained former Principal with the PA Ballet. Deb Lane, of Landsdowne, will perform with Tess Tickle. Lindsay Lombardi, a longtime arts supporter of South Philadelphia, is dancing with Scott Lowe, a Miro Dancer who is currently working with Donald Byrd on a Broadway show. Ryan Haaz is paired with Miro Dancer and Sellersville native Dana Dlugosz and will be performing the Swing. Brett Mapp, the founder of MAPP, is dancing the Tango with Miro Dancer Joy Havens.

About Miro Dance Theatre
Miro Dance Theatre creates and performs original work that explores the collaborative intersections of contemporary dance, video, and visual art.

In 2004 dancer and choreographer Amanda Miller and video and visual artist Tobin Rothlein founded Miro Dance Theatre in order to realize their unique creative vision, and explore the intersections of contemporary dance, video, and visual art. Miller, with ten years experience as a dancer at the Pennsylvania Ballet and choreographic studies in Europe under Siobhan Davies, is at the helm of Miro's choreographic exploration. Rothlein, whose work as video artist and visual designer for Rennie Harris Puremovement and others has garnered accolades nationally and internationally, oversees the company's work in combining dance, multi-media and visual arts. Miro produces the work of Miller and Rothlein alongside special collaborations with invited friends and guests.

Miro shares its vision with the general and artistic communities through outreach in the form of residency activities, open studios, workshops, master classes, and access to visiting artists. Miro believes in the importance of establishing creative and mutually beneficial partnerships with other organizations, individuals and artists in the communities where we live, work, and perform.
