2010 Nationwide Insurance Picnic with the Pops Opens with Motown Tribute 6/19

By:

The "Philadelphia Sound" of the 1960s is back and coming to the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in the form of vocal sensations, Spectrum, in a tribute to Motown and R&B. Featured hits will include beloved classics such as "My Girl," "Stand by Me," "Soul Man," and "Under the Boardwalk."

The 2010 Nationwide Insurance Picnic with the Pops presents Spectrum at Chemical Abstracts Service (2540 Olentangy River Rd.) on Saturday, June 19, at 8:15 pm. Tickets are $20 for adults and $13 for children if purchased in advance by phone at 614.228.8600, online at www.PicnicWithThePops.com, or in person at the Ohio Theatre Ticket Office (39 E. State St.). At the gate on the night of the show, tickets are $22 for adults and $15 for children. Children 3 and under are free

Spectrum boasts four talented singers who combine their voices and dexterity to create the angelic harmonies and deft choreography that have become their trademark. The group consists of master recording artist Darryl Grant of Oakland, California; Chicago-born musician and versatile entertainer Pierre Jovan; David Prescott, the silky-smooth, soaring-voiced first tenor from Rochester, New York; and singer, actor, and group founder Cushney Roberts, from East Orange, New Jersey. Roberts left the life of a Princeton-educated corporate engineer to cut his teeth in casino lounges en route to becoming a well-respected Las Vegas showroom entertainer.

Spectrum has performed with more than 40 symphony orchestras throughout North America, as well as a European tour and a performance at the Hollywood Palladium. Twice voted "Best of Las Vegas" (2005 and 2006) and recipients of the Vegas Entertainment Consumer's 2009 Living Legends Award for Excellence in Entertainment, Spectrum's award-winning show ran for four consecutive years in Las Vegas.

The group's collective and individual credentials include starring in six major Las Vegas and international productions; numerous television appearances including "The Today Show;" featured film appearances; starring roles in Equity theater; special appearances at professional sporting events; performances/recordings with or opening for artists such as Tony Bennett, The Temptations, Blue Magic, Little Richard, Marty Robbins, the Platters, Frankie Lymon's Teenagers, Doc Severenson, and Fat Larry's Band, among many others.
