As we continue our behind the scenes look at our much-anticipated production of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, we thought we would next take a peek in our costume shop where our Resident Costume Designer, Trish Clark, has been heading the creation of a closet full of Victorian garb.

Tennessee Repertory Theatre continues its 2013-2014 season with Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, a Trivial Comedy for Serious People. The classic comedy opens October 12th with a scheduled run thru October 26th (previews October 10-11), but the crew here at Tennessee Rep has already been in the thick of Earnest for quite some time.

Walnut Street Theatre continues its landmark 204th season with an all-new production of Oscar Wilde's dramatic masterpiece AN IDEAL HUSBAND. This classic comedy, directed by Malcolm Black, runs through March 3rd on the WST Mainstage. Today in 1939, The Importance of Being Earnest opened at the Vanderbilt Theatre, where it ran for 61 performances. Written by Oscar Wilde, the show was first performed on 14 February 1895 at St. James's Theatre in London, it is a farcical comedy in which the protagonists maintain fictitious personae in order to escape burdensome social obligations. Working within the social conventions of late Victorian London, the play's major themes are the triviality with which it treats institutions as serious as marriage, and the resulting satire of Victorian ways. Its high farce and witty dialogue have helped make The Importance of Being Earnest Wilde's most enduringly popular play.

As previously announced, the complete 2012 Williamstown Theatre Festival season closes this weekend, August 19, 2012. This season included Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, a Preview Production of the new musical Far From Heaven, and a new translation of Ivan Turgenev's A Month in the Country on the Main Stage, with Lucy Boyle's The Blue Deep, Neil Simon's Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Bernard Pomerance's The Elephant Man, and Katori Hall's WHADDABLOODCLOT!!! on the Nikos Stage. The season also included a special workshop production of David Byrne's Here Lies Love, which played at nearby MASS MoCA. Elements Theatre Company is showcasing A. R. Gurney's Pulitzer-nominated play, The Dining Room, a window into a vanishing class of society from the 1930s to the 1980s. The production runs May 19-27, 2012 at Elements Theatre, Paraclete House, Rock Harbor, Orleans, MA.

Simon Callow has brought his highly acclaimed show BEING SHAKESPEARE to the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre at the Broadway Playhouse for a limited engagement through April 29, 2012. The Off Broadway production of Standing On Ceremony kicked off its open-ended run on November 7, and featured an introduction from EVan Wolfson, Founder and President of Freedom to Marry. Conceived by Brian Shnipper and directed by Stuart Ross, Standing On Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays began as a series of benefit events in Los Angeles, taking on a life of their own as an inspiring theatrical evening.
