Cabaret singer, jazz vocalist, songwriter, cult film star, theater artist, drag performer, fashion icon-Joey Arias defies categorization. Long acclaimed for "channeling Billie Holiday" (New Yorker), Mr. Arias has gone on to establish himself as a world-class entertainer, touring internationally and starring in lavish theatrical productions including Cirque du Soleil's Zumanity and Arias with a Twist. In celebration of Lady Day's 100th birthday, he presented a lushly orchestrated, rarely performed all-Holiday program set against the gorgeous nighttime backdrop of Columbus Circle. The Shakespeare Theatre Company will welcome to its stage puppeteer Basil Twist and his production of Petrushka, which will run at STC's Lansburgh Theatre (450 7th Street NW) from March 16-25, 2012. This limited engagement is part of STC's and its Artistic Director Michael Kahn's 25th Anniversary Season.

It takes a lot to get me to below 42nd Street, but this weekend, the treck down to the Abrons Arts Center was worth it - and then some! Our evening began with one of the best New York city meals that I've ever had, at the uber-hip Beauty & Essex on the Lower East Side with amazing sharing plates of delicious food prepared by chef Chris Santos (also of the equally wonderful Stanton Social restaurant). The cocktails weren't bad either. After being extremely well fed, with spot-on service and unexpected glamour we made our way on over to the Abrons Arts Center, just a few blocks away, for a night to remember.

Gary Beach received the 2001 Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for the role of Roger DeBris in the Broadway production of 'The Producers.' His other Broadway experiences include 'Les Miserables', 'La Cage aux Folles', 'Beauty and the Beast' (Tony nomination and Ovation Award nomination), 'Sweet Adeline' (Encores!), 'Doonesbury,' 'The Moony Shapiro Songbook', 'Annie,' 'Something's Afoot,' '1776', plus the national companies of: 'Les Misérables,' 'Legends!,' 'Lend Me a Tenor,' 'Closer than Ever,' and 'Of Thee I Sing' (Helen Hayes nomination).
