Disney Theatrical Productions will present the eagerly anticipated North American tour of Broadway's Tony® Award-winning smash hit musical, Disney's NEWSIES. Rehearsals began on Wednesday, September 3 in New York City in preparation for the first performance on Saturday, October 11 in Schenectady, NY at Proctors. During its first year of touring in the 2014-15 season, the production will play 25 cities, over 43 weeks. The production features Dan DeLuca as 'Jack Kelly', Steve Blanchard as 'Joseph Pulitzer', Stephanie Styles as 'Katherine', Angela Grovey as 'Medda Larkin', Jacob Kemp as 'Davey', Zachary Sayle as 'Crutchie', and Vincent Crocilla and Anthony Rosenthal alternating the role of 'Les.' KING LEARMichael Pennington, two-time Olivier Award nominee, an artist of international stature and one of England's greatest classical actors, will play the title role in William Shakespeare's tragedy King Lear directed by Arin Arbus. For the second production in Theatre for a New Audience's inaugural season at its first permanent home, the new Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place in Brooklyn, Mr. Pennington leads a company of 22 actors. Hernandez were on hand to not only talk to tour stars Caroline Bowman (Eva Peron), Josh Young (Che) and Sean MacLaughlin (Juan Peron) and Evita Producer Hal Luftig, but such Hollywood celebrities as Shirley Jones, Marty Ingels, Patrick Cassidy, Sam Harris, Greg Louganis and partner Johnny Chaillot, Disney's G. Hannelius (Dog with a Blog), Hal Sparks (Disney XD's Lab Rats) among others. In addition to Hal Luftig, Evita Producers include Scott Sanders, Troika Entertainment & The Nederlander Organization. The National Tour of THE GERSHWINS' PORGY AND BESS, winner of the 2012 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival, will launch at San Francisco's Golden Gate Theatre this November. The tour, accompanied by a 23-piece orchestra, will begin performances Sunday, Nov. 10 with an official opening on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Tuesday, October 22 marks the first day of rehearsal for the Guthrie Theater's 2013 production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, presented by U.S. Bank. The perennial holiday favorite, now in its 39th year at the Guthrie, features a script by British playwright Crispin Whittell and is directed by Joe Chvala. Chvala is the founder and artistic director of the Flying Foot Forum and has previously served as both director and movement director for the production. Longtime Guthrie actor J.C. Cutler will reprise the role of grubby miser Ebenezer Scrooge. Cutler has been involved in 30 productions at the Guthrie since 1993, including five productions of A Christmas Carol - appearing as Ebenezer Scrooge (2011), Bob Cratchit (1995, 1997), Banker (1996) and Young Scrooge (1993, 1994) - and was last seen on a Guthrie stage in this past summer's original romantic comedy Pride and Prejudice.
