Ailey II recently completed a successful four week international tour with performances in Luxemburg, Germany, Poland and Lithuania. While in Warsaw Poland, Ailey II appeared on Poland's version of "So You Think You Can Dance." Troy Powell who will become Artistic Director of Ailey II next month, taught the four finalists choreography from his 2011 work Reference Point and the finalists attended Ailey II's performance at Poland's Palace of Culture and Science.

Dixon Place will present the world premiere of Rachel Klein's Symphony of Shadows: A Tale From the Land Beyond the Veil on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from June 8 to at 7:30pm at Dixon Place / 161A Chrystie Street. This movement-based spectacular tells the story of a woman combating a variety of sleep disorders, phantasmagorical night terrors, hypnotic horrors, and other, visually stunning conjurings from the subconscious depths of her own disturbed mind. Symphony of Shadows merges striking elements of circus and aerial arts, dance and movement, burlesque, and operatic productions to vividly illustrate its storyline in a genre defying form, which 'evokes a live-action silent film.'

New York City Center has just reopened following a historic renovation and modernization with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and star-studded gala last night, October 25 at New York City Center. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg conducted The Encores! Orchestra in the opening number (as a nod to Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, who conducted the New York Philharmonic when City Center opened as a performing arts center in 1943). Broadway Beat was there for the reopening, and brings you interviews with the evening's participants below!

A.R.T. American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) opens its 2011-12 season with The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, by George Gershwin, DuBose and Dorothy Heyward, and Ira Gershwin. The adaptation by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks and Obie Award-winning composer Diedre L. Murray, directed by A.R.T. Artistic Director Diane Paulus, with choreography by Ronald K. Brown, begins previews on August 17 and opens for the reviewing press on August 31 at 7pm. Performances are at the Loeb Drama Center, 64 Brattle Street, Cambridge. Tickets for preview performances are currently on sale, remaining tickets for the run go on sale on July 12. Sebastian Arcelus, Rebecca Luker, Rob McClure, Howard McGillin, Jill Paice and Lauren Worsham will starin Frank Loesser's Where's Charley?, the final New York City Center Encores! production of the 2010-11. Where's Charley?, based on Brandon Thomas' Charley's Aunt, has a book by George Abbott and music and lyrics by Frank Loesser. The show, running March 17 - 20, will be directed by John Doyle and choreographed by Alex Sanchez with music direction by Rob Berman. The cast and creative team met the press and Broadway Beat was there to capture them in rehearsal along with special interviews!
