Brooklyn band Sky-Pony (fronted by Tony nominee Lauren Worsham of Broadway's A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder) is known for shows that bridge the gap between rock and theater. Earlier this week, they combined these interests with special show that included a cavalcade of luminaries from the world of Broadway at Joe's Pub. Special guests included Tony nominee Marc Kudisch (Hand to God, 9 to 5), Margo Seibert (Rocky, Tamar of the River), Alli Mauzey (Wicked, Hairspray), Lisa O'Hare (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), Catherine Walker (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder) and Tony winner Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening). Happy Birthday, Stephanie J. Block! On Broadway, Block has starred in The Boy From Oz, Wicked, The Pirate Queen, 9 To 5, Anything Goes, and The Mystery of Edwin Drood. In addition, she originated the role of Elphaba in the first national tour of Wicked and in 2010 starred as Grizabella in the Municipal Opera Production production of Cats. Also that year, she starred as Sonia Walsk alongside Jason Alexander in the Reprise Theatre Company's production of They're Playing Our Song.

Today in 2009, 9 to 5 closed at the Marquis Theatre, where it ran for 148 performances. 9 to 5 is a stage musical with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick, based on the 1980 movie Nine to Five. Resnick had co-written the screenplay with Colin Higgins, the director of the film, in which Parton had her first screen role. The musical premiered at Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles in September 2008 and opened on Broadway on April 30, 2009. It was nominated for 15 Drama Desk Awards, the most received by a production in a single year. It was also nominated for four Tony Awards.

Block and composer Jason Robert Brown for 'The Art of Songwriting' at the first Vulture Festival, a weekend of pop culture events in New York City on May 10 and 11. During the event, Brown spoke to New York magazine theater critic Jesse Green about composing for musicals and played and sang some of his tunes with additional vocal accompaniment by Block. 54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, recently featured Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young in 'Samson & Delilah, A Love Story'- an evening of songs from the Broadway Records album containing songs from the forthcoming new musical Samson & Delilah, music and lyrics by Ron Yatter. The songs are a unique blend of legit theater and pop/rock. The show is a new telling of the epic, tragic love story of the biblical couple from different cultures. Delilah, the beautiful young Philistine, falls in love with the mighty Samson. When she betrays him it's over misguided jealousy. She realizes her tragic mistake and they reconcile. Originally from Southern New Jersey, Julia studied vocally with Melissa Daniels and received ballet training from Andrea Duffin who both gave her the inspiration and courage to pursue her dreams. Theater credits include: Jack's Back (Jenny), West Side Story (Maria). TV:Law and Order SVU, All My Children. Ben has has called Chicago his home for the past year and comes to Phantom directly from the Chicago-area Marriott Theatre (South Pacific, Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 and Now and Forever: The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber). Regionally, Ben has appeared at the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre (Willoughby in Sense and Sensibility), Maine State Music Theatre (Fabrizio in The Light in the Piazza) and in several productions at the Utah Shakespeare Festival including Tom in The Glass Menagerie and Leartes in Hamlet. He holds undergraduate degrees in English Literature and Theatre from Denison University and an MFA in Acting from UC Irvine.
