Photo Flash: Three Local Students Top CTG's 2016 August Wilson Monologue Competition

From a field of 12 local high school students, Damaris Vizvett, Samuel Christian and Aryana Williams have been selected as the top three performers in the August Wilson Monologue Competition (AWMC) regional finals hosted at Center Theatre Group's Mark Taper Forum on Monday night, February 29, 2016. Vizvett and Christian will go on to represent Los Angeles in the national finals on May 2. This year's competition featured high school students from three Southern California counties. Nathaniel P. Claridad (the original company of Here Lies Love) directs and serves as head writer for the new investigative theatre piece that will play October 23rd through November 1 at the Access Theatre.

Actress/Singer/Dancer Carol Lawrence has been named the honoree for the Professional Dancers Society's (PDS) annual Gypsy Awards Luncheon, it was announced by PDS President, Mitzi Gaynor and PDS Board Chairman, Joni Berry. Miss Lawrence will be honored on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel (9876 Wilshire Blvd.) and famed choreographers Alan Johnson, Miriam Nelson and Walter Painter will receive special PDS Choreography Awards, for their extraordinary contribution to dance.

This weekend, dinosaurs were spotted in Chapel Hill. Wagon Wheel Arts' production of Triassic Parq played the Kenan Theatre from Thursday through Sunday. The show follows the same dinosaurs made famous by the film Jurassic Park, but explores the lives of those dinosaurs in a whole new way. These dinosaurs deal with religion, hormones, and the very notion of freedom itself - through song and dance, naturally.
