Metropolitan Museum Features Art by Baldessari, 10/20-1/9

Widely renowned as a pioneer of conceptual art, American artist John Baldessari (b. 1931, National City, California) is one of the most influential contemporary artists of the last 50 years. John Baldessari: Pure Beauty, the first major U.S. exhibition in 20 years to survey Baldessari's career, will be on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art from October 20, 2010, through January 9, 2011. This retrospective will feature approximately 120 works spanning the period from 1962 to 2010.

PlayhouseSquare Partners, the young professionals group at PlayhouseSquare, is beginning a year-long celebration of its 20th anniversary with a free 'YP Night at Cinema at the Square' on Thursday, August 19. Northeast Ohio young professionals are invited to enjoy a pre-movie reception at 6 p.m. featuring cocktails, theater snacks and the announcement of the 20th annual Jump Back Ball theme, followed by a screening of Back to the Future at 7:30 p.m. in the Palace Theatre. Tickets are free but required, and may be requested online at playhousesquare.org/partners or by calling Molly Franz at 216-348-5265.

New Episodes Of Oxygen's SNAPPED

The summer may be hot, but it's four heated trials that shake things up during Oxygen's 'Killer Month of June,' featuring all new episodes of 'Snapped' every Sunday at 10pm ET/PT. The lineup kicks off on June 6 with the highly publicized case of Jane Andrews, former assistant to the Duchess of York. Rounding out the rest of the month is Elicia Hughes, of Jackson Mississippi on June 13; Diane Fleming, of Chesterfield, Virginia on June 20; and Lynn Turner, of Cumming, Georgia on June 27.

As has been widely reported, Artist David Ilan has been in the process of creating a Michael Jackson tribute painting using the pointillism style in which the paiting is comprised of dots. For the tribute, each dot represents a different influential person. At a special recognition ceremony yesterday, June 21, Ilan added a 'dot' in honor of Dr. Maya Angelou at Angelou's home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. David Ilan is attempting to get a million people, each being represented by a dot, to make up the Michael Jackson tribute portrait. Maya Angelou also read her Michael Jackson tribute poem, 'We Had Him,' at the event. BroadwayWorld brings coverage of the event below.
