Wei Luo and Elliot Wuu Named 2018 Gilmore Young Artists

Two young America-based pianists, Wei Luo and Elliot Wuu, have been named recipients of the 2018 Gilmore Young Artist Award. The Awards were announced today by Daniel R. Gustin, Director of the Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival and Awards, which conducts and funds the Gilmore Artist Award program.

Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute Brings Together Brightest Young Musicians this July

This July, Carnegie Hall brings together close to 200 of the best teen musicians from across the country for a month of exceptional music making as part of two exciting ensembles. The critically-acclaimed National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA), now entering its fifth year, is comprised of 116 musicians, ages 16-19. NYO2, a new group launched in summer 2016 for younger players, ages 14-17, was created with a particular focus of attracting talented students from communities traditionally underserved or underrepresented in the classical music field. In total, the musicians of NYO-USA and NYO2 come from 40 US states, plus Puerto Rico. Both programs are free, ensuring that all promising young players can have the opportunity to take part in this unique community of musicians-learning from a world-class faculty, playing alongside talented peers, and performing with leading artists on the stages of some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall.

Yolanda Kondonassis Performs Premieres of Jennifer Higdon Concerto for Harp and Orchestra

Grammy-nominated harpist Yolanda Kondonassis announces the premiere performance series of Grammy and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon's Concerto for Harp and Orchestra, written for and to be premiered by Kondonassis with The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Ward Stare in May 2018. The premiere series of performances will continue with Yolanda Kondonassis as soloist throughout 2018 and 2019 with consortium members the Harrisburg Symphony, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Lansing Symphony, Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra, and Baton Rouge Symphony. The consortium was designed to bring the work to both large and small communities in a variety of geographic regions.

Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal Announces New Season

What is the importance of classical music in today's world? This is a concern of Kent Nagano's, in his 12th year at the helm of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. And that question is at the source of the programming offered by the OSM for its 2017-2018 season, with the 375th anniversary of the city of Montréal well under way.
