The five-time Grammy Award-winning San Francisco Girls Chorus--Lisa Bielawa, Artistic Director and Valérie Sainte-Agathe, Music Director and Principal Conductor-continues its 35th anniversary season with a fully staged production of Benjamin Britten's 1957 opera Noye's Fludde, based on the biblical deluge story, in one performance only, tonight, March 29, 2014, at 8 pm at Temple Emanu-El in San Francisco.
The April broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week — the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin — begin with Music Director Alan Gilbert leading the Orchestra in Beethoven's Coriolan Overture; Korngold's Violin Concerto, with soloist Leonidas Kavakos; Nielsen's Symphony No. 3, Sinfonia espansiva, with soprano Erin Morley and baritone Joshua Hopkins; and Nielsen's Symphony No. 2, The Four Temperaments. This recording of the two Nielsen symphonies was selected by The New York Times as one of the Best Classical Music Recordings of 2012. The following week Alan Gilbert leads the Philharmonic in Nielsen's Flute Concerto, with Principal Flute Robert Langevin as soloist, and Violin Concerto, featuring Nikolaj Znaider, as well as Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2, Little Russian.
The Music Institute of Chicago, now in its 84th year, hosts its annual gala Monday, May 12 at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, 120 East Delaware Place. The oldest community music school in Illinois and one of the three largest community music schools in the nation, the Music Institute is planning a celebratory evening highlighted by the presentation of the Dushkin Award to conductor, composer, and pianist Andre Previn.

Conducted by Ms. Sainte-Agathe, the cast will feature guest artists Carey Perloff as The Voice of God, bass-baritone Joe Chappell as Noah, mezzo-soprano Silvie Jensen as Mrs. Noah and other soloist roles performed by members of the San Francisco Girls Chorus, to be announced. The production will be staged by Ariel Craft and will feature original art, costumes and set pieces created by members of San Francisco's acclaimed Creativity Explored, supported by a grant from the Creative Work Fund.
