Working Barn Productions and Bontela Productions will present a six-actor, multimedia look at William Shakespeare's classic tragedy, MACBETH, directed by Peter Richards. MACBETH will preview tonight, October 9 & Friday, October 10 at 8pm and will open on Saturday, October 11 at 8pm and will run through Sunday, November 2 at Edgemar Center for the Arts, 2437 Main Street in Santa Monica.

A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, continues its 2014-2015 REVOLUTIONary season with The Dance of Death by August Strindberg in a new adaptation by Irish playwright Conor McPherson, which opens on Saturday, October 18and runs through Sunday, November 23, 2014. Directed by Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott, this is the West Coast premiere of the new McPherson adaptation, which had its U.S. premiere earlier this year in Chicago. In 2007, Ben Brantley of the New York Times called McPherson "quite possibly the finest playwright of his generation." The cast features Geoff Elliott* as Edgar, Susan Angelo* as Alice, and Eric Curtis Johnson* as Kurt.* Denotes member of Actors' Equity

POLITICAL INTRIGUE. CONSPIRATORS. MURDER. JULIUS CAESAR, a tragic play in five acts written by William Shakespeare and directed by Robert Beltran (Star Trek: Voyager; Zoot Suit; Eating Raoul), will be coming to the community of Boyle Heights, CA presented in a five-week run by CASA 0101 Theater and Josefina Lopez, Artistic Director. The production will be presented on the theater's Main Stage located at 2102 East First Street (at St. Louis Street), Boyle Heights, CA 90033 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and on Sundays at 5:00 p.m., October 17 - November 16, 2014. A Preview performance will be given on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. There will be no performance on Sunday, November 9, 2014.

PlayMakers Repertory Company takes audiences into the darker reaches of the forest with two tales of magic and transformation in the theater's annual rotating repertory event. The professional theater in residence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill performs "Into the Woods" by Tony Award-winner Stephen Sondheim and "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare Nov. 1 to Dec. 7.

The Harold Clurman Playwrights Division, a program of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, has announced the results of its search for ten-minute plays with social impact. In early 2014, the division sought plays that address issues of the environmental crisis or global violence against women and girls. Over sixty plays were received. Seven of them will be read on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 7pm as part of the Harold Clurman Festival of the Arts, an annual event that highlights the relationship between art and social activism. The cast will be comprised of studio alumni and faculty. The selected plays and authors follow:

Over 3,000 students and 118 schools will participate in the 38th annual Shakespeare Competition hosted by the Utah Shakespeare Festival and Southern Utah University. From October 9 to 11 student thespians from across the Intermountain West will compete as actors, dancers, musicians, and theatre technicians before panels of theatre, dance and music professionals in the largest scholastic Shakespeare competition in the country.
