Count Basie Orchestra Coming to Harris Center, 3/18-19

William 'Count' Basie started The Count Basie Orchestra in 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri. Within a year, America was listening in on popular radio shows throughout the country to hear what would become 'The greatest swing band in all the land!' A phenomenon was born in 1935 that is still going strong today! Harris Center for the Arts is proud to present this legendary orchestra.

Tonya Pinkins, Kathleen Chalfant & More Set for ITLP Benefit Reading, 2/9

Celebrated Broadway and Off-Broadway actors Tonya Pinkins (Caroline, or Change, Radio Golf), Kathleen Chalfant (Angels in America, Wit), Brian Murray (The Crucible, The Play About The Baby), Jay O. Sanders (Pygmalion, The Apple Family Plays) and Nilaja Sun (No Child) will do a Benefit reading for The International Theatre and Literacy Project (ITLP) itlp.org on Monday February 9th at 7:30pm at The Daryl Roth Theatre 101 East 15th Street, New York City. They will be joined by actors James Williams (Radio Golf, The Piano Lesson), Peter Francis James (The Merchant of Venice, On Golden Pond), Miriam A. Hyman (The Commons of Pensacola, Macbeth) and Devin Haqq (Richard III, Macbeth).

Edgar Allan Poe Exhibit at the Grolier Club Now On View Through 11/22

The Fall season at the Grolier Club opens with the public exhibition Evermore: The Persistence of Poe devoted to one of the most influential authors of the nineteenth century and the chilling master of the macabre, Edgar Allan Poe. On view through November 22, 2014, Evermore showcases an extraordinary array of approximately 200 printed materials and objects drawn from Grolier member Susan Jaffe Tane's personal holdings, widely recognized as the finest Poe collection in private hands.

The Brandon McCune Trio Annouce Residency at Bemelmans Bar in The Carlyle

Revered pianist/singer Brandon McCune will be joined by bassist and musical director Chris Berger and bebop jazz guitarist extraordinaire Ron Affif to perform as The Brandon McCune Trio during a Sunday-night residency at Bemelmans Bar in The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel through October.

New York Theatre Workshop Extends WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT? Through 2/16

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director Jeremy Blocker have announced that What's It All About? Bacharach Reimagined will extend two additional weeks through Sunday, February 16, 2014 at NYTW, 79 East 4 Street, between Bowery and Second Avenue. The musical had originally been scheduled to run through January 5 and then, following rave reviews and strong box office, received a four-week extension through February 2.

World Premiere of THE PORTRAIT to Run 1/15-26 at Theatre 54

ACTORS AND DIRECTORS LIVING IN BROOKLYN (AdLib), in association with THE SIMON STUDIO, is pleased to announce the world premiere production of Sarah Levine Simon's THE PORTRAIT, directed by Roger Hendricks Simon (NY Shakespeare Festival, Yale Rep, London's Royal Court Theatre). THE PORTRAIT, which was first written and produced as a radio play for National Public Radio, will play a limited engagement at Theatre 54 (Shetler Studios, 244 West 54th Street, 12th Fl.). Performances begin Wednesday, January 15 and continue through Sunday, January 26. Opening Night is Thursday, January 16 (8 p.m.). Tickets are $18 and are available at smarttix.com.
