The national tour of the smash hit musical DREAMGIRLS makes its Miami premiere at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami Dade County for a one week limited engagement, Tuesday, October 19 through Sunday, October 24 as the first presentation of the BROADWAY IN MIAMI 2010-2011 season, presented by the Adrienne Arsht Center, Broadway Across America-Miami and presenting sponsor Bank of America.

Producer John Breglio and the Tennessee Performing Arts Center announced today that tickets for the smash hit musical DREAMGIRLS will go on sale September 10 at 10 AM. Ticket prices range from $27.50 to $72.50 and will be available at the TPAC box office 505 Deaderick Street, Davis-Kidd Booksellers in The Mall at Greenhills, by visiting tpac.org, or by calling 615-782-4040. Mel Brooks has taken a giant tumble off the mountaintop on which he stood following the success of THE PRODUCERS. To think about it, THE PRODUCERS revealed itself not to be one of the greats as soon as Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick departed. Performers mean an awful lot in a Broadway musical. It seems the Brooks machine is willing to trade gifted star performers (they got to be stars for a reason, you know) for a more immediate return of profit. Seems to be unwise for them, and certainly not a reason for the audience to rejoice. But, on to the show.

Michael Frayn's 1975 comedy, Alphabetical Order, is the type of play that, either as a compliment or as a dismissal, American audiences are likely to label as 'very British.'  Its humor is subtle, its themes are sub-textual and the characters all talk in these funny accents.  But even those who appreciate the delicacy of that type of play may find this early work by the versatile writer who went on to pen the riotous Noises Off and the heady Copenhagen a little padded and lacking in both humor and bite.  Still, director Carl Forsman and the Keen Theatre Company serve up a lively production that boasts its charms, particularly in the performances of the engaging ensemble.

Make no mistake about it: everybody in Tennessee loves Dolly Parton! She's a Volunteer State treasure, a role model for people all over the world and an example of what hard work and a whole lotta heart can achieve. Hell, if Dolly (in Tennessee, no other modifier is needed to identify our favorite daughter) ran for office, she'd be a shoo-in!
