NYFOS to Present CUBANS IN PARIS, CUBANS AT HOME, 12/3 in Reston, VAC; 12/5 in NYC

NEW YORK FESTIVAL OF SONG, with Steven Blier, Artistic Director, and Michael Barrett, Associate Artistic Director, continues its 2013-14 Mainstage series at Merkin Concert Hall, Kaufman Music Center with 'CUBANS IN PARIS, CUBANS AT HOME', featuring Cuban music's rich history in the concert halls, theaters, and nightclubs of two continents.

Hsin-Yun Huang & More Honored with Classical Recording Foundation Awards

The Classical Recording Foundation (CRF) is pleased to announce the 2013 winners of its twelfth annual Classical Recording Foundation Awards. Four prizes will be presented at the Foundation's Annual Awards Concert and Benefit at 7:30pm on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. The event will feature CRF Young Artist of the Year pianist Roman Rabinovich performing selections from his CD Ballets Russes (Orchid; March 2013), pianist Laura Leon performing works by CRF Composer of the Year Peter Schickele's album The Music of Peter Schickele, Samuel Sanders Collaborative Artists Award winners Hsin-Yun Huang and Sarah Rothenberg in selections from their recording Viola Viola (Bridge; November 2012); andClassical Recording Foundation Award winner, cellist Sophie Shao, performing selections from her upcoming double-CD set of J.S. Bach's Cello Suites. The proceeds from the 2013 Classical Recording Foundation Award Ceremony and Benefit will go toward the 2014 Awards.

NEW YORK FESTIVAL OF SONG, Steven Blier, Artistic Director • Michael Barrett, Associate Artistic Director, opens its 2013-14 Mainstage series at Merkin Concert Hall, Kaufman Music Center with 'NED IS NINETY', a musical 90th birthday for American icon (and guest of honor) Ned Rorem.

Onassis Cultural Center NY to Highlight Composer Giorgos Koumendakis in Two Concerts, Begin. Today

The Onassis Cultural Center NY will present two concerts in its Fall 2013 Cultural Series Program highlighting the music of one of Greece's most important contemporary composers, Giorgos Koumendakis, whose eclectic works have ranged from chamber pieces to the music for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. The concerts will bring Koumendakis together with Steven Mackey, one of the outstanding American composers of his generation, providing fresh insights into both of their musical worlds. The concerts will be held at Princeton University tonight, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. and at Carnegie Hall tomorrow, October 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Fort Worth Opera's New Works Program, FRONTIERS, Presents Eight Unpublished Works, 5/8 - 5/9

Fort Worth Opera (FWOpera) revealed today the names of the eight composer and librettist teams from the Americas whose works have been selected for participation in the second season of the company's critically-acclaimed, annual new works program, Frontiers, taking place May 8 – 9, 2014, during the last week of the 2014 Opera Festival.

Ann Arbor Symphony Presents THE RITE OF SPRING Tonight

Step inside the mind of composer, Igor Stravinsky, as his musical choreographic work The Rite of Spring comes to life through the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra on opening night, tonight, September 21, 8:00 p.m. at the Michigan Theater. The concert features a riotous compilation of some of the greatest symphonic works of the repertoire, and lifts the audience back into the symphony season.

Minnesota Opera Announces THE SHINING World Premiere, May 2016

Minnesota Opera announces its commission of The Shining, a new opera by composer Paul Moravec and librettist Mark Campbell, based on the 1977 best-selling novel by Stephen King. Minnesota Opera will give The Shining its world premiere in May 2016 at Ordway in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Pianist Ursula Oppens Plays Music Mountain Today

The distinguished American pianist Ursula Oppens will perform Faure's Piano Quintet No. 1 in D Minor with the Cassatt Quartet at Music Mountain this afternoon, August 25th, at 3:00 p.m. at Gordon Hall, 225 Music Mountain Rd., Falls Village, CT. The program will also include works by Shostakovich and Beethoven.

Jon Ophoff Wins Ragtime Competition at Greenfield Village's 7th Annual Ragtime Street Fair

Jon Ophoff is the winner of the 2013 piano competition at Greenfield Village's seventh annual Ragtime Street Fair. His winning performance was The Cascades by Scott Joplin. After receiving the award, he was invited back for an encore, when he played Graceful Ghost Rag by William Bolcom. Tea parties on the lawn, Gershwin in the theater, and Joplin on the stage are but a few of the delightful events that take place each year during this unique festival. Ragtime, a style of music with 'ragged' or syncopated rhythm saw its heyday from 1897 to 1918.
