Baltimore Shakespeare Factory to Present THE MERCHANT OF VENICE

Baltimore Shakespeare Factory (BSF), in conjunction with British original pronunciation (OP) experts, the father and son team of David and Ben Crystal, will open its 2015 season with a historic production of The Merchant of Venice. Ben Crystal will also visit the company twice during the rehearsal process, including the final rehearsals during the week before opening night. Presenting A Merchant of Venice in OP fits perfectly with BSF's overall philosophy of recreating the staging conditions that existed in Shakespeare's day.

Chichester Festival 2014 opened with a major revival of Hugh Whitemore's award-winning glimpse into the unconventional life of celebrated English poet and novelist Stevie Smith. 'To be indifferent is the biggest crime in theatre,' he says on a day off from the popular show now playing at the new Coal Mine Theatre on the Danforth. He demands to be engaged, he adds, every time he attends a production.

A new play by Jez Butterworth, The River stars Hugh Jackman, Laura Donnelly andCush Jumbo and is directed by Ian Rickson. The production will play a strictly limited 13-week engagement through Sunday, January 25, 2015. The final evening of East Lynne Theater Company's and The Cape May Film Society's Sunday Film Series is also the last day of The Cape May Film Festival: Sunday, October 19. Under the title 'Spooky Comic Silent Shorts,' the main feature is 'Habeas Corpus' starring Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, but there will also be animated films and a few surprises - all just in time for Halloween. And all accompanied live by organist Wayne Zimmerman.
