DePaul University Celebrates 100th Anniversary of Reskin Theatre

The Theatre School at DePaul University is delighted to announce that this coming December 31, 2010, will mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Merle Reskin Theatre (formerly The Blackstone Theatre). The Beaux-Arts style Blackstone Theatre, which was designed by Chicago architects Marshall and Fox, opened its doors just off of Michigan Avenue in the South Loop on New Years' Eve of 1910. In the course of the past century it has changed owners, names, addresses, audiences, and has stayed a hub of theatrical arts in a changing neighborhood and city. It faced many noteworthy changes in entertainment, including the introduction of the radio, television and film industries.

Opera San José proudly launches its 27th Anniversary Season with the West Coast premiere of Anna Karenina, an American opera by composer David Carlson with libretto by the late Colin Graham. Eight performances are scheduled from September 11 through 26 at the California Theatre, 345 South First Street in downtown San José. Opera San José will present Anna Karenina with a new scene added by the composer following the opera's 2007 world premiere at Florida Grand Opera. Tickets are on sale at the Opera San José Box Office, by phone at (408) 437-4450 or online at www.operasj.org. Anna Karenina is sponsored by a grant from the Carol Franc Buck Foundation and is made possible, in part, by a Cultural Affairs Grant from the City of San José.

Opening to the public on Thursday, September 16, 'Up from the Vault: 85 Years of Treasures from the Warner Bros. Photo Lab' will run through December 12. Admission is free.

The Guthrie Theater's production of Tennessee Williams' iconic American play A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by John Miller-Stephany, is now in its final two weeks of performances in Minneapolis. Film and television actress Gretchen Egolf leads the cast in a critically acclaimed portrayal of Blanche DuBois. 'Desperate Housewives' star Ricardo Antonio Chavira (Stanley Kowalski), New York actor Brian Keane (Harold 'Mitch' Mitchell) and Twin Cities mainstay Stacia Rice (Stella Kowalski) join Egolf in the production, heralded by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine as 'one of those more-or-less definitive productions that people will remember for some time to come.'

Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced the complete cast and creative team for the West Coast Premiere of Tony Award winner Joe DiPietro's The Last Romance. Old Globe Associate Artist and television icon Marion Ross will star with her longtime partner Paul Michael in the new romantic comedy which was written for them by DiPietro.
