Madison Opera Celebrates 50th Anniversary During 2010-11 Season

Madison Opera is excited to announce its 50th anniversary season, featuring Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, the company premiere of Kurt Weill's The Threepenny Opera, and Verdi's La Traviata. In July 2011, Madison Opera also celebrates the 10th anniversary of Opera in the Park, a Madison Summer Tradition.

Grigolo & Kovalevska Lead LA BOHEME's Returns to the Met Beginning 10/16

Puccini's classic love story La Bohème returns to the Metropolitan Opera on October 16 for an extended run of performances, starring some of opera's most celebrated young stars in the roles of Mimì and Rodolfo. Franco Zeffirelli's production, an audience favorite since 1981, will be conducted by Roberto Rizzi Brignoli in his Met debut.

Grammy Award winners Bill Whelan (Riverdance) and Susan McKeown, actress and TONY nominee Kathleen Chalfant and Man Booker nominee Emma Donoghue, are among the featured artists this Fall at the Irish Arts Center.

Music Theatre of Connecticut School of the Performing Arts presents 'Pinocchio,' an original fully staged and costumed production performed by MTC School of Performing Arts students, ages seven and up. Performances take place on Friday, August 20 at 7:30pm and Saturday, August 21 at 1pm at Theatre Artists Workshop, 5 Gregory Boulevard in Norwalk, CT.

Bass-baritone John Relyea will sing the role of Figaro, and Ailyn Perez will play the Countess in Ravinia Festival's production of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, and 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, in the Martin Theatre.

NY Choral Society Presents Mozart's Requiem & Bernstein's Chichester Psalms at Carnegie Hall, 5/1

The New York Choral Society closes its 51st season with a performance of Mozart's Requiem, Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, and James DeMars' Tito's Say, on May 1, 2010 at Carnegie Hall, 8:00 PM. The esteemed chorus performs with the Brooklyn Philharmonic under the baton of NYCS Music Director John Daly Goodwin, alongside soloists Joyce El Khoury, soprano, Elizabeth Batton, mezzo-soprano, Michele Angelini, tenor, and Daniel Mobbs, bass-baritone.

Kate Aldrich To Sing Title Role Of The Met's CARMEN 4/28, 5/1

Kate Aldrich will sing the title role of Carmen on April 28 and May 1, replacing Angela Gheorghiu who has withdrawn from those performances. Gheorghiu issued the following statement: 'To make so important a debut as Carmen, I want to be as prepared dramatically as I am musically. Therefore, I will postpone my role debut until a later date when I can work intensely with the Richard Eyre production.'

LA TRAVIATA Returns Starring Angela Gheorghiu, Closes 4/24

Verdi's La Traviata returns to the Met with Angela Gheorghiu reprising her acclaimed interpretation of Violetta, a role the New York Times called a 'supercharged star turn' when she performed it in 2006.
