The Pasadena Playhouse announced today that they will present the hit production of Gabrielle Pina's LETTERS FROM ZORA, in association with One Pearl and a Sphinx. The production, which returns by poplular demand, will play a limited engagement of eight performances and stars Vanessa Bell Calloway. LETTERS FROM ZORA is directed by Anita Dashiell-Sparks with original music composed by Ron McCurdy. Performances run May 10 - 18, 2014 with a press opening on Sunday, May 11 at 2:00 p.m.
The National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC), today announced winners of the 19th Annual NAMIC Vision Awards. Presented in partnership with NAMIC – Southern California, the awards recognize original, multi-platform television programming that depicts the lives, spirit and contributions of people of color and best reflects the diversity of the global viewing audience. The winners were presented at a live event hosted at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, California on July 11, 2013.
Coming off of the success of its best year ever in 2010 and best quarter ever for 1Q'11, BET Networks announced that it will unveil a brand new slate of programming for BET and CENTRIC at its 2011 Upfront presentation at the Best Buy Theater in New York.
The most awarded African-American playwright in history, August Wilson's crowning achievement was his ten-play cycle, August Wilson's 20th Century in which each work is set in a different decade in the 1900's. The cycle, often titled the Pittsburgh Cycle because nine of the ten plays are set in Pittsburgh, chronicles the African-American experience in the 20th century. August Wilson's 20th Century will be presented in a series of staged readings at the Kennedy Center.
The Hayworth Theater will present August Wilson's The Piano Lesson, directed by the award winning Claude Purdy, opening November 2. Earning Wilson his second Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critic's Circle Award for Best New Play, The Piano Lesson is produced by Stagewalkers in associations with A 444 Production and stars Russell Andrews and Vanessa Bell Calloway.
Entertainment industry veteran, Jamie Foster Brown brings her trademark sass, innate intelligence, sensitivity and well-honed sense of humor to the stage to star in a one-night-only presentation of the Obie Award-winning performance piece, The Vagina Monologues at Washington, D.C.'s historic Lincoln Theatre
