Alliance Theatre artistic director Susan V. Booth and New York Times best-selling author Pearl Cleage collaborate this fall on the world premiere of The Nacirema Society Requests the Honor of Your Presence at a Celebration of Their First One Hundred Years. This romantic comedy takes a lighthearted look into one of Southern society's grandest traditions, the annual cotillion. As the new African-American debutants prepare for their introduction into the exclusive Nacirema Society of Montgomery, Alabama, their strong-willed grandmothers work behind the scenes to manage young love, the revelation of old flames, and the glare of the national spotlight. The Nacirema Society boasts a combination of some of the nation's finest actresses, including the Tony Award winning Trezana Beverly, Atlanta's own Andrea Frye, and acclaimed television, film and stage actress Jasmine Guy.

Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre will present the final reading in the Gurfein Foundation/Ntozake Shange Play Reading Series: Derek Walcott's new play Marie Laveau, with music by Galt MacDermot. The reading will take place Sunday, June 28th at 3pm, at Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42nd Street (between 10th and 11th Avenues). Clinton Turner Davis directs a cast that features Arthur Bartow, Trazana Beverley, Thomas Jefferson Byrd, Gerard Catus, Lia Chaing, DK Dyson, Stu Richel, Martin Shakar, and Marie Thomas as Marie Laveau.

Medieval Mystery Plays Get Modern Twist for Christmas in the Streets of New York for Strangers and Other Angels Theatre-lovers, theologians, strangers and other angels are invited into the streets of New York for a free theatrical event that mines the story of the first Christmas and celebrates the abundance of community. Starting at the Museum of the City of New York (located at 5th Avenue at 104th Street) on Saturday, December 6th at 4 p.m., Compagnia de' Colombari, an international collective of performing artists, including Tony and Obie Award-winners and acclaimed musicians, will present Strangers and Other Angels, the medieval mystery play vividly re-imagined for the 21st century.
