The Irish Repertory Theatre continues its New Works Reading Series with a free reading of BERNICE BOBS HER HAIR, a new musical featuring music by Adam Gwon and book and lyrics by Julia Jordan on Friday, May 21 at 2:00pm at the Irish Repertory Theatre (132 West 22nd Street) in Manhattan. The BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop announces its Spring Smoker, a semi-annual showcase for new songs from Workshop writers. The event will be held at the The Actors Temple Theatre, 339 West 47th Street, (between 8th and 9th Aves) at 5:30PM and is open to members of the entertainment industry as well as Workshop members.

Previews will begin today at Virginia's Signature Theatre for the world premiere musical Sycamore Trees written by Ricky Ian Gordon, the award-winning composer of the opera The Grapes of Wrath and the musicals Dream True and My Life with Albertine. A starry Broadway cast portrays Gordon's own family story - complete with a tough Bronx-born father and former 'Borscht Belt' singer/comedian mother - in a tale of two generations' struggles and triumphs in the decades from World War II through the 1990s.

The 55th Annual Village Voice OBIE Awards were presented on Monday, May 17, 2010, at a ceremony held at Webster Hall in Manhattan. Co-hosted by Michael Cerveris and former OBIE winner Anika Noni Rose, the awards were presented by J. The sixth season of the acclaimed Monday Nights, New Voices series continues March 29th at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre. Mary Testa, most recently seen as General Cartwright in the Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls, will host an evening of new Voices, featuring the talents of Julia Burrows, Brian Golub, Ashley McKay, Barry Shafrin and Shaina Taub. Show time is 7 PM.

Transport Group's production of Mart Crowley's The Boys in the Band, directed by artistic director Jack Cummings III, will play its final performance on Sunday, March 28. The Boys in the Band plays in a site-specific production at 37 West 26 Street, between Broadway and Sixth Avenue, Penthouse.

Transport Group (TG), the winner of a special 2007 Drama Desk Award and a 2007 Obie Award, has announced that its production of Mart Crowley's The Boys in the Band, directed by artistic director Jack Cummings III, will close Sunday, March 28 following the 7pm performance at 37 West 26 Street, between Broadway and Sixth Avenue, Penthouse.

In conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War, a new musical work by composer Ricky Ian Gordon and librettist Mark Campbell will have its world premiere performances beginning April 12, 2011 the same day that Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter in 1861.

HERE Arts Center proudly brings to life SOUNDING, a new seven-character play driven by original text and lyrics, along with cinematic video and a unique soundscape influenced by the music of Patti Smith, Bartok and Portishead. Written by Jennifer Gibbs and directed by Kristin Marting, this production runs Wednesday, February 17- Saturday, March 13 at HERE Arts Center. Official Opening Night is set for Saturday, February 20 at 8:30 PM.
