Tracy Byrd Celebrates 25 Years Of Making Music and Announces 2019 Tour Plans

PlayGround continues its 25th season of its celebrated Monday Night PlayGround staged reading series with the first 2019 Monday readings on Monday, January 21, 8 PM at Berkeley Repertory Theatre's Roda Theatre. The topic for January's round, announced last Friday, is "ADAPT A FAIRY TALE". Members of the 2018-19 PlayGround Writers Company have just four-and-a-half days to generate their original ten-minute plays inspired by the topic. The top six scripts will each receive an hour-and-a-half rehearsal and a professional script-in-hand staged reading at Berkeley Rep on January 21. PlayGround writers in Los Angeles are working simultaneously on the same prompt and their finalists will be presented at Hollywood's Broadwater Mainstage (home of Sacred Fools Theatre Company) on January 14. Aurora Theatre Company continues its dynamic 27th season with the Bay Area premiere of Anna Ziegler's ACTUALLY. Tracy Ward directs this powerful "he said/she said" that explores the intersection of race, gender, and sex on college campuses. Michael Curry and Ella Dershowitz each make their Aurora debut.

Asolo Repertory Theatre proudly presents the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama winner and Tony nominee for Best Play: SWEAT, penned by one of today's foremost playwrights, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Lynn Nottage. Directed by Nicole A. Watson, this poignant new drama humanizes the U.S. labor crisis and its impact on Reading, Pennsylvania. SWEAT previews February 6 and 7, opens February 8 and runs through April 13 in rotating repertory in the Mertz Theatre, located in the FSU Center for the Performing Arts. 

The Gift Theatre is pleased to present TEN 2019, the company's annual season kick-off festival of ten world premiere ten-minute pieces by The Gift and guest artists, curated by Artistic Director Michael Patrick Thornton and Associate Artistic Directors Paul D'Addario and Emjoy Gavino. Bending the Spoon revolves around three generations of a family as they prepare to celebrate the upcoming birthday of the youngest member. Doing so, however, forces them to come to terms with past relationships, past decisions and past actions involving a long-ago family tragedy.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company presents the Chicago premiere of The Children written by Lucy Kirkwood and helmed by celebrated Chicago director Jonathan Berry. Based on the original Hans Christian Andersen version (Not the Disney Movie), this adaptation of The Little Mermaid was written by 16-year-old Geneva Foster-Narvaez, a student at the Harlem School of the Arts. Geneva has been writing, she says, ever since she can remember and has loved the story of The Little Mermaid since she first saw the movie.

As the new spring season for Storyhouse fast approaches, the award-winning Chester venue has added four new shows to its programme - revealing its first three shows for autumn.

The Directors Guild of America  today announced the nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television, Commercials and Documentary for 2018.

Multi-platinum R&B group B2K (Omarion, Boog, Fizz and Raz-B), has announced today that it will kick off a limited engagement tour in March 2019, entitled “The Millennium Tour,” featuring a performance at Prudential Center on Sunday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m. EST.   The Iconic group along with special guests; Mario, Pretty Ricky, Lloyd, Ying Yang Twins, Chingy, and Bobby V - will visit over 25 cities across the U.S.  The tour is produced by G-Squared Events in association with Omarionu Worldwide, Hall of Fame Entertainment, and Blvd. Music.

The Growing Stage, The Children's Theatre of New Jersey, located in the Historic Palace Theatre on Route 183 in Netcong, New Jersey presents the Studio Series Presentation of A WRINKLE IN TIME from January 17th through 20th with performances at 7:30 PM on Thursday and Friday, and matinees at 4:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.   Based on A WRINKLE IN TIME by Madeleine L'Engle, this adaptation is by Tracy Young. The production is directed and choreographed by Jillian Petrie, TGS Teaching Artist and Company Choreographer.

Jamie Lloyd's star-studded season of short Pinter plays continues with two more intriguing productions: one directed by Patrick Marber, the other by Lloyd himself. Among the subjects this time around are family, miscommunication, class, politics – plus an early bid for the most memorable wigs of 2019.

Ghost Ship Radio will bring Victoria Valentine: Paranormal Investigator to the Hatbox Theatre on January 27th, March 24th, and May 26th for Sunday Matinee showings at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $17, $14 for members, seniors and students, and $12 for senior members.
