Actors' Equity Association announced today that Green Day's AMERICAN IDIOT has been selected as the recipient of its Extraordinary Excellence in Diversity on Broadway Award for the 2009-2010 Season. The Diversity Award will be presented at a reception at the Equity headquarters in New York City on Tuesday, June 15, 2010.
The video game 'Green Day: Rock Band,' which is the latest installment in the popular Rock Band series, was released today, the official Rock Band website announced. The game's producers include Harmonix, MTV Games, Reprise/Warners Bros. Records. Green Day's music is currently featured on Broadway in AMERICAN IDIOT.

Carrie Fisher won the award for Outstanding Solo Performance with Wishful Drinking, and Kevin Adams of American Idiot was honored for Outstanding Lighting Design. The Outer Critics Circle - the official organization of writers covering New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers, national publications, and other media beyond Broadway - has given awards since 1950.

Yesterday, April 27, cast members from AMERICAN IDIOT helped unveil the IDIOT-themed windows at Bloomingdale's on 59th Street. The Nudie denim line sold at the superstore is partnering with the production. The window displays honor the cast and celebrate the show's recent opening on April 20, 2010. Last week on April 20, 2010, Actor's Equity's David Westphal hosted the famed Gypsy Robe Ceremony for company members of AMERICAN IDIOT at the St. James Theatre. A long-standing opening night tradition on the Great White Way, the fabled Gypsy Robe is bestowed upon a veteran Broadway chorus member for each opening production. In what has now become a theatrical ritual, originating on Broadway 60 years ago, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES chorus member Dale Hensley turned over the robe to AMERICAN IDIOT cast member Andrew Call. BroadwayWorld was there for the celebration.
