The Brick to Present sound scape, 6/7-29

In the modern theater, unsung artists called Sound Designers are quietly engaged to flesh out theatrical productions with recordings of crickets, doorbells and phone rings. They fill your Tempests with winds, your Streetcars with street noise and your Vanyas with gunshots. They mix your incidental music with your offstage voices and invisibly support the director's vision. If they're doing their job correctly, you won't even notice their contribution.

Kimber Lee Named 2013-2014 PoNY Fellow

Lark Play Development Center and Playwrights of New York (PoNY) have announced that Kimber Lee will be the recipient of the 2013-14 PoNY Fellowship which provides over $100,000 in comprehensive career support, including housing in the PoNY apartment in the heart of the theater district in Manhattan.

The Flea Premieres WHITE HOT by Tommy Smith, Beginning 4/26

The Flea Theater will present the New York Premiere of WHITE HOT by Tommy Smith (Pigeon, The Wife). It is directed by Courtney Ulrich and stars The Bats. Performances run April 26 - May 26 at The Flea (41 White Street between Church and Broadway in Tribeca).

The Flea Premieres A CAUTIONARY TAIL, Previews Begin May 29

The Flea Theater will present the world premiere of a cautionary tale by playwright christopher oscar peña. Directed by Flea Resident Director Benjamin H. Kamine (Thomas Bradshaw's Job), previews begin May 29 with opening night set for June 10.

Broadway Hit VENUS IN FUR to Play Philadelphia Theatre, 5/24-6/23

Seduction and power, desire and sex are themes of David Ives' dark comedy Venus in Fur, receiving its Philadelphia premiere at Philadelphia Theatre Company May 24-June 23 at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets). Directed by Kip Fagan, the two-person cast features Mark Alhadeff and Jenni Putney.

The Flea Premieres WHITE HOT by Tommy Smith, Beginning 4/26

Playwright Tommy Smith returns to The Flea and once again brings you to the brink with the New York Premiere of WHITE HOT. In her directorial debut, the production will be helmed by Flea Resident Director Courtney Ulrich starring The Bats, the resident acting company at The Flea. Previews begin April 26 with opening night slated for May 7.

The Flea goes audio with the upcoming workshop production of Tommy Smith's NECTARINE EP. A sonic reverberation of Homer's The Odyssey - filtered through the lens of downtown artist Tommy Smith - the audio-fueled 'extended play', NECTARINE EP, de-stimulates the audience's perception through visual and auditory manipulation. This experimental production is both written and directed by Tommy Smith and features The Bats, the resident acting company at The Flea. (PLEASE NOTE: This production is not open for review.)

Labyrinth Theater Company Announces February Barn Series

Labyrinth Theater Company has announced their Winter lineup of free play readings for the 13th Annual Barn Series, to be held at the Bank Street Theater in Manhattan's West Village, throughout the Company's 2012/13 Season.

Dallas Theater Center Presents KING LEAR, Now thru 2/18

Dallas Theater Center will conclude its four-year Shakespeare cycle with one of the playwright's greatest tragedies King Lear, a co-production with Trinity Repertory Company and directed by DTC artistic director Kevin Moriarty. King Lear opens for previews tonight, January 18 and runs through Sunday, February 18.

The Flea Presents THE SHAKES: ROMEO & JULIET, 1/31-3/2

The Flea Theater will continue it's tradition of late-night offerings with The Shakes: Romeo and Juliet. Five teams of actors helmed by five Flea Resident Directors each perform an act from Shakespeare's most tragic love story. Cast from The Flea resident acting company, The Bats, Romeo and Juliet follows the inaugural Shakes, The Honest Whore by Thomas Dekker and Thomas Middleton. The Shakes: Romeo and Juliet will be performed in one-act installments until the play is complete.

Thomas Bradshaw's JOB Premiere Returns to The Flea, Now thru 1/28

After a sold out run and extension, The Flea Theater announces yet another extension of the New York premiere production of JOB, written by Thomas Bradshaw and directed by Flea Resident Director Benjamin Kamine. A popular and critical success, JOB now will return and play tonight, January 4 through 28.

Dallas Theater Center to Present KING LEAR, 1/18-2/18

It will be directed by Ed Sylvanus Iskandar, a 2012 Drama Desk Award nominee for These Seven Sicknesses, and stars The Bats, the resident Acting Company at The Flea.
