Veteran union activist Joseph Ruskin has posthumously received the 2014 Patrick Quinn Award for Distinguished Service to Actors presented by the Actors' Equity Foundation. Ruskin, who joined Equity in 1952, served on the Council from 1979 until his death on December 28, 2013 at the age of 89. The award will be presented in Los Angeles to his wife, Barbara Ruskin, at the Equity Council meeting on Tuesday, July 15th.

Broadway star and animal advocate Bernadette Peters will visit the NASDAQ MarketSite in Times Square to ring the Closing Bell in honor of Broadway Barks 16 tomorrow, July 11, 2014. Peters will be joined by Tom Viola, Executive Director of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, as well as four puppies from Bide-A-Wee, one of Broadway Barks' participating shelters here in New York City at tomorrow's closing of the Nasdaq bell.

BROADWAY BARKS announces their 16th annual star-studded dog and cat adoption event featuring celebrities from the hottest shows on Broadway to benefit New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies. Founded by Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters, the event, produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS will take place on Saturday, July 12 in Shubert Alley (located between 44th and 45th Streets, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue). The festivities begin at 3:00 p.m. where you can meet all the adoptable dogs and cats; celebrity presentations of pets from animal shelters citywide will take place between 5-6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The ninth annual edition of Broadway Backwards, a one-night-only performance produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and benefiting BC/EFA and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of New York, took place last night. This year's special event featured the talents of Michael Berresse (Kiss Me, Kate; A Chorus Line), Tony winner Beth Leavel (Elf, The Drowsy Chaperone), Tony winner Debra Monk (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, TV's 'Girls'), Ken Page (Ain't Misbehavin', Cats), Tony winner Billy Porter (Kinky Boots), Tony nominee Andrew Rannells(The Book of Mormon, TV's 'Girls'), Tony nominee John Tartaglia (Avenue Q, TV's 'Johnny and the Sprites.'), and more This year's edition of Broadway Backwards (#bwaybackwards) was held at Broadway's Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 W 45th Street, NYC), current home to the Tony Award-winning Best Musical Kinky Boots. Gingold Theatrical Group, under the leadership of David Staller, honored philanthropist Anita Jaffe and playwright/actor Charles Busch at its Annual Golden Shamrock Gala, earlier this week at Manhattan Penthouse (80 Fifth Ave at 14th Street). Debra Monk Birthday Bash (#debrabday) featured the Tony Award winner and some of her most talented friends rollicking through a collection of their favorite rock and pop hits. The Fred Ebb Foundation (Mitchell Bernard, Trustee) has announced that its 2013 donation to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS will total $1.4 million dollars, marking the largest single contribution in BC/EFA history and bringing the foundation's total contribution to BC/EFA to $8.35 million since 2005.

Kinky Boots stars Billy Porter, Stark Sands and Annaleigh Ashford and more joined the show's Tony Award-winning composer Cyndi Lauper for a special one-night-only True Colors Cabaret, last night, December 16th at Birdland (315 W 44th St). Lauper joined the cast of Kinky Boots to perform an eclectic array of standards, pop hits and other songs, with musical direction by the show's Tony Award-winning orchestrator Stephen Oremus.
