In a modern retelling of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic about duality and temptation, Slipstream Theater Initiative is thrilled to present Dr. Heidi Jekyll. Dr. Jekyll is a talented, dedicated Midwestern pharmaceutical researcher, facing the daily struggles of sobriety.
A billionaire businessman runs against a former First Lady and Secretary of State for President. The battle is heated, divisive, and induces the country's political upheaval. The four children of the businessman stand to inherit a dynasty if they follow their father's orders. The only daughter of the former First Lady must face the scrutiny of the public eye. This is the world of Capulet versus Montague in Slipstream's spin on Shakespeare's iconic Romeo and Juliet. The youngest daughter of the Capulet clan and the only daughter of the Montague family are the star-crossed lovers in this version, and they will stop at nothing to be together.
Slipstream is bursting at the seams to launch a new season with a vehicle (or a vehicular as in HoverRound) for the acclaimed Richard Payton! December kicks off the company's third season with Lady Bracknell Presents: Grimm Brothers Fairy Tales.

'Nothing can cure the soul but the senses, just as nothing can cure the senses but the soul.' Join Slipstream as we explore Oscar Wilde's masterpiece through a new lens. Set during the golden years of Hollywood, a young man unwittingly trades his soul for immortality, and discovers the actual price of fame. This surreal look into the lines that separate and blur the notions of morality versus mortality is done with four actors. One actor remains Dorian Gray, while the rest of the company morphs into the people, ideas, and ghosts of Dorian's life as his grip on sanity loosens. Just how long can a person remain an ideal before it starts to consume him whole, and how many people are destroyed in the process? What is the true cost of eternal youth?

Slipstream Theatre Initiative excitedly says "Hello" to the Detroit Area Theatre Scene! Slipstream is a new company founded in Ferndale and focuses on current takes on classical works as well as featuring original works by local playwrights. The mission is simple: use a core ensemble of actors and focus on the intent of the playwright while making viable, contemporary and thought provoking art. The company utilizes some of Detroit's well known talent (as well as several newcomers), a minimalistic technical approach and the area's most unique spaces to cross the divide between old and new. Slipstream will work in conjunction with several companies in the area and is set to perform on most theaters' "dark" nights, offering a weeknight outing for an affordable price while leaving the weekends free for more established companies' seasons. Based in Ferndale but using different venues around the area to suit each show, Slipstream promises to make you rethink what makes something "classical" and what defines "contemporary."
