BWW Review: A Masterful WATCH ON THE RHINE at Arena Stage

Lillian Hellman's 1941 play WATCH ON THE RHINE isn't often produced, but it's certainly a relevant one in today's troubling times. As directed in the round by Jackie Maxwell at Arena Stage, it's probably one of the best examples of a scintillating, well-written script being brought to the stage by a uniformly excellent cast. The end result is a must-see production for the serious theatergoer.

Set in Washington, D.C. on the brink of U.S. involvement in World War II, Hellman's suspenseful drama was hailed by the Chicago Tribune as "dramatically gripping and genuinely moving." Watch on the Rhine runs February 3-March 5, 2017 in the Fichandler Stage.

BWW Review: Roundhouse & Olney's ANGELS IN AMERICA: MILLENNIUM APPROACHES an Artistic and Historic Triumph

Angels in America:  Millennium Approaches is not just a national treasure, it is a glimpse of history in the making; it is a then-marginalized community seizing the stage, demanding attention, and beginning the long process of changing hearts and minds across the country.  To watch the kaleidoscope of characters, brilliantly portrayed here by some of Washington DC's finest actors, can be incredibly moving.  Not just for the performances themselves, which are memorable indeed, but for how those performances remind us of the changes this play made possible.

BWW Review: THE BODY OF AN AMERICAN Compels at Theater J

When the foreign correspondent Paul Watson snapped a grisly photo in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993, he'd receive both a prize and a curse. He got a Pulitzer Prize for capturing the awful moment of the body of a soldier being dragged and desecrated down a side street, but also heard a imagined voice from the dead soldier that haunted him ever since.

Memories painful and poignant intermingle through a smoky haze in the sharp and vivid production of Tennessee Williams THE GLASS MENAGERIE now onstage at Ford's Theatre. Painstakingly directed by Mark Ramont, the production boasts a superb cast of actors whose nuanced and detailed performances mine the emotional depths of Williams' early and personal play.
