Castillo Theatre Presents SALLY AND TOM (THE AMERICAN WAY), Opening 2/17

Running at the Castillo Theatre for six weeks from February 17 through March 25, the Fred Newman-Annie Roboff musical revival, Sally and Tom (The American Way) examines the 30-year relationship between Thomas Jefferson and his slave Sally Hemings, a relationship that produced five children and embodies the wrenching conflict between democracy and slavery, and its legacy of racism that continues to shape America to this day. In this polarizing presidential election year, the meaning of "the American way" is itself being hotly contested.

Cabrillo Music Theatre's 2012-13 Season to Include LEGALLY BLONDE, 1776 & More

Cabrillo Music Theatre today announced its 2012-2013 SEASON, produced exclusively in the Kavli Theatre, at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The 2012-2013 Season will treat audiences to four Cabrillo premieres, with three of them also Civic Arts Plaza premieres.

Washington D.C.'s Ford's Theatre has just anounced the cast for their upcoming production of 1776. Featuring direction by Peter Flynn and choreography by Michael Bobbitt, the production will run March 9 through May 19. The star studded cast will include Robert Cuccioli as John Dickinson, Brooks Ashmanskas as John Adams, William Diggle as Thomas Jefferson, Gregory Maheu as Edward Rutledge, and Tom Story as Charles Thomson.

JEFFERSON’S SECRET BIBLE Premieres 2/20 on Smithsonian Channel

At the age of 77, Thomas Jefferson took a knife to the four gospels of the Bible, keeping the sections he believed were the true teachings of Jesus Christ, and leaving the miracles, angels and the resurrection behind. Living at Monticello following his two terms as President, Jefferson assembled the private text in 1820. By compiling four translations-English, French, Latin and Greek- Jefferson sought to tell a chronological and distilled version of Jesus' life and moral teachings.

Musical about Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings Comes to Castillo Theatre, 2/17-3/25

The Castillo Theatre is reviving the Fred Newman-Annie Roboff musical, Sally and Tom (The American Way) for a six-week run from February 17 through March 25. The musical is being directed by Gabrielle L. Kurlander, whose production Playing With Heiner Müller received a 2011 Vivian Robinson/AUDELCO Recognition Award For Excellence in Black Theatre for outstanding ensemble performance. Musical direction is by David Belmont, choreography by Lonné Moretton. The Castillo Theatre is located at 543 West 42nd Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues.

GLEE Give a Note Winners Announced!

Twentieth Century Fox Television, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) announced today the winners for the "GLEE Give a Note" campaign - that started over 3 months ago - whereby 73 schools nationwide will receive grants ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 to help save struggling music programs. As the economy continues to stumble, school music and fine arts classes are the first to feel the impact with drastic budget cuts and elimination of departments. The "GLEE Give a Note" campaign aims to soften the blow, and reignite public passion for supporting student arts programs and the teachings they provide to students.

Cheyenne Jackson's PRICE CHECK to Premiere at 2012 Sundance Film Festival

Sundance Institute announced today the films selected to screen in the out-of-competition Premieres and Documentary Premieres sections of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. Included in this year's line-up is Price Check, featuring Cheyenne Jackson, Parker Posey, and Annie Parisse.The Festival will be held January 19 through 29 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.
