The first New York Philharmonic Young People's Concert (YPC) of the 2009-10 season will take place Saturday, November 7, 2009, at 2:00 p.m.

At a time when many professional artists are feeling the pinch of the economic crisis, Meet The Composer (MTC)--America's preeminent commissioning organization--has taken the initiative to keep artists employed and the arts thriving by doubling the amount of money given out through its Commissioning Music/USA program as well as its program for new music ensembles and presenters in New York City, the Cary New Music Performance Fund.

American baritone Thomas Hampson has been named the Leonard Bernstein Scholar-in-Residence at the New York Philharmonic for the 2009-10 season in conjunction with his role as The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence. Mr. Hampson will present two Insight Series events and the Annual Erich Leinsdorf Lecture in a series entitled 'Listening to Thought,' exploring the interplay of verbal and musical languages in vocal music.

Beginning on November 5th, Avenue Q's John Tartaglia will host four Young People's Concerts for the New York Philharmonic through May 6th, 2006
