Legendary Irish traditional band Altan celebrate 25 years together in 2010, having established themselves as one of the most important live acts to play traditional Irish music in Ireland and on the world stage. To mark this, the band has recorded a very special album with the RTE Concert Orchestra and is touring internationally, making a stop in Columbus with the world-famous, original band line up.
Steve Lippia takes his audience back in time with a remarkable combination of his own musical interpretation and the influence of the greatest singers of an incredible era in American music. In Simply Sinatra, he expertly delivers standards permanently engraved in music history including "I've Got You Under My Skin," "The Lady is a Tramp," and "Mack the Knife."
Produced by CAPA and the OSU Department of Theatre, Pearl Cleage's A Song for Coretta will play the Lincoln Theatre (21 E. Main St.) March 5-7. Inspired by the long line of mourners at Ebenezer Baptist Church paying their respects to Mrs. Coretta Scott King, this play introduces five fictional African-American women, aged 17 to 57, who find laughter and hope while waiting in the rain to say goodbye. A Song For Coretta explores the impact Mrs. King had on the lives of these women, and the connections they build with one another through her memory and legacy.

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of George Gershwin's enduring masterpiece, a new production of Porgy and Bess has been mounted-with full approval of the Gershwin estate-by veteran opera producer Michael Capasso (General Director of New York's vibrant Dicapo Opera). Featuring a stellar cast, live orchestra, and brand new sets, costumes, and lighting, this groundbreaking opera weaves a tale of prejudice, love, and tragedy. Incorporating a wealth of blues and jazz into the classical art of opera, Gershwin considered Porgy & Bess his finest work with songs such as 'Summertime' and 'It Ain't Necessarily So.' Columbus resident and OSU graduate Eric McKeever will be performing the role of Jake for the national tour which runs through June.

In RED NOIR, which opens at The Living Theatre on Thursday, December 10, writer Anne Waldman combines metaphors of the film noir genre and reflections on modern life in our economically and ecologically trouble ridden war culture. Set on the Lower East Side, with an array of vivid characters whose lives intertwine, the play follows Ruby (Sheila Dabney) as she investigates a black market deal done by many greedy hands and pursues two men, Jelly (Anthony Sisco) and Bolt (Eno Edet), each carrying a valise - one filled with a nuclear or toxic substance; the other filled with the seeds of the future.
