The following are SARTA's announcements and upcoming events.

Tisa Chang, Artistic Producing Director of Pan Asian Repertory Theatre announces its 33rd season with the East Coast premiere of IMELDA, A New Musical. The limited engagement plays September 22nd - October 18th, 2009 at The Julia Miles Theatre, 424 West 55th Street. Opening night is Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.

Star of stage, television and film Maurice Hines makes a special, week long visit to D.C. this October to lead two FREE master classes and hold an open dance audition to kick off work as the choreographer and lead performer in Arena Stage's musical revue Sophisticated Ladies, running April 15 - May 30, 2010 at the Lincoln Theatre.

Rep Stage, the professional Equity theatre in residence at Howard Community College (HCC), begins its 17th season with David Davalos' comedy 'Wittenberg,' directed by Tony Tsendeas, opening August 26 and running through September 13, 2009 in the Smith Theatre of HCC's Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center (HVPA).

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) announced complete casting today for the Shakespeare in the Park production of Euripides' THE BACCHAE, directed by JoAnne Akalaitis with original music by Philip Glass and translated by Nicholas Rudall. Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) will play the lead role of Pentheus joining George Bartenieff as Cadmus; André De Shields as Teiresias; Jonathan Groff as Dionysus; Karen Kandel as Chorus Leader; Joan MacIntosh as Agave; Steven Rishard as Cowherd; and Rocco Sisto as Messenger.

THE BACCHAE will run August 11-August 30 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park with an official press opening on Monday, August 24 at 8 p.m. Bank of America returns as lead sponsor of Shakespeare in the Park 2009.

IMELDA, a new bio-musical that retells the rise and fall of Imelda Marcos- a highly controversial figure in Philippine politics, widow of erstwhile dictator Ferdinand Marcos, and owner of over 3,000 pairs of shoes - boasts an all-Filipino cast led by Jaygee Macapugay as Imelda, and Mel Sagrado Maghuyop as Ferdinand.

Celebrated theater and film actor Jack Gilpin is signing on to the Edinburgh-bound cast of Couples Counseling in the role of Dr. Bob Melmud.

Sixdollarsinmypocket productions will present CONEY ISLAND AVENUE, the world premiere by playwright Charles L. Mee, featuring a company of 20 actors under the direction of Anjali Vashi.
