Hampstead Theatre/The Peter Wolff Trust are delighted to announce two new plays from award winning writers for Hampstead Downstairs in the New Year: Jeremy Brock's The Blackest Black and Nick Whitby's The Mystae.
Ruth Wilson (Saving Mr Banks, Anna Christie, A Streetcar Named Desire, Luther, The Lone Ranger) will star in the London premiere of The El. Train: three one-act plays by Eugene O'Neill (The Web, Before Breakfast and The Dreamy Kid). The plays, written between 1913 and 1918, are being presented together for the first time. Ruth will act in The Web and Before Breakfast, directed by Sam Yates, and will make her directorial debut with The Dreamy Kid. Combining live music with immersive design, all housed in the intimate setting of Grade II listed Hoxton Hall (built 1863, seating an audience of 125), The El. Train will run for a limited four-week season from tonight, 6 December - 30 December, with press nights on the 12 & 13 December. Design is by Richard Kent, with lighting by Neil Austin and original composition and sound design by Alex Baranowski. The El. Train is being produced by Found Productions.
In light of the murder of Trayvon Martin, The New Black Fest commissioned a diverse group of playwrights to write 10-minute plays reflecting on the tragedy. With these plays, The New Black Fest's wish is that serious discussion is incited in our communities around these urgent issues. The City University of New York will present Facing Our Truth: Short Plays on Trayvon, Race, and Privilege- held tomorrow, December 5, at the Graduate Center (365 Fifth Avenue) at 6:30 PM.

American Repertory Ballet's Nutcracker production is celebrating 50 consecutive years this coming holiday season. It is one of the longest-running Nutcracker productions in the United States, and is the longest-running in New Jersey. Today, November 30, 2013, directly following the 4:30pm performance at McCarter Theatre, American Repertory Ballet will hold a celebratory reception at The Nassau Club in Princeton.
American Repertory Ballet's 50th Annual Nutcracker production will come to State Theatre on Friday, December 21 and Saturday, December 22 at 1:00pm and 4:30pm. These performances feature Tchaikovsky's score played live by an orchestra under the direction of Maestro Michael Pratt, and vocals by the Princeton Girlchoir. Yale's School of Architecture and School of Drama are teaming up this fall to present 'Stage Designs by Ming Cho Lee,' a retrospective of the award-winning designer and Yale professor's work in theater, opera, and dance.
