Theatre Development Fund (TDF), the not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts, has named Daniel Renner to the position of Director of Education. Mr. Renner, who is one of the country's leading theatre arts educators, is currently the Dean of the National Theatre Conservatory and Director of Education for the Denver Center of the Performing Arts.

Bloomberg will join Alec Baldwin to present the 2011 Mayor's Awards for Arts and Culture to six individuals and organizations in celebration of their outstanding contributions to New York City's cultural life. The Mayor will also present the Handel Medallion, New York City's highest award for achievement in the arts, to the world-renowned composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim. The event, to be held at New York City's acclaimed Alice Tully Hall, will feature live performances by leading performing arts organizations, and appearances by special guest artists.

Steppenwolf for Young Adults launches its 2011/12 season with The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter adapted by Rebecca Gilman, based on the novel by Carson McCullers and directed by Hallie Gordon, playing October 11 - November 4, 2011 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted St. The production features ensemble member Alan Wilder with Jessica Honor Carleton, Derrick C. Cooper, Walter Coppage, Ann Joseph, Loren Lazerine, Colm O'Reilly, Jay Reed, Robert Schleifer and Nick Vidal. Weekday matinees (Tuesdays through Fridays) are reserved for school groups only, with weekend (Saturday and Sunday) performances available to the public. Single tickets and tickets for school groups are currently on sale.
