The Public Theater announced complete casting today for the world premiere three-play cycle THE GABRIELS: Election Year in the Life of One Family, written and directed by Richard Nelson. Featuring the same core acting company for all three productions, Play One: HUNGRY, will begin previews on Saturday, February 27 and run through, Sunday, March 20, with an official press opening on Friday, March 4, 2016. The second play, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?, will premiere in September and the final play in the new cycle, WOMEN OF A CERTAIN AGE, will open on election night, November 8, 2016.

Sundance Institute today announced the projects and artists participating in its two Fall artist development programs: the Alumni Writers Studio at Flying Point in Water Mill, NY, which ran October 4-11, as well as the two-week Theatre Lab for musical theatre, ensemble-generated projects and solo work at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), taking place November 8-22. Under the supervision of Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, the initiatives are among the 24 residency Labs the Institute hosts each year for independent artists in theatre, film, new media and episodic content.

Sundance Institute today announced a significant expansion of its international cultural exchange programs for independent artists with a new, multi-year initiative to support theatre-makers from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). With the goal of creating new opportunities for cross-cultural connectedness and in-depth mutual artistic reflection and exploration, the Institute will expand its existing international Labs to include a pilot Theatre Lab in MENA, to take place in May 2016. Theatre artists in the U.S. and from MENA can submit their work for consideration for this Lab as well as a new Theatre-Makers Residency at the Sundance Resort in Utah in summer 2016 through October 15 at sundance.org/theatre in a new application process. Application guidelines are also available in Arabic and French.

Dorset Theatre Festival's 2015 New Play Reading Series concludes on Monday, August 24th with Kate Moira Ryan's Hipsterly Ever After. Ryan is a New York-based playwright whose play The Beebo Brinker Chronicles, produced off-Broadway by Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner, won a GLAAD Award. She was also a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn prize for her play Hadley's Mistake. She has received numerous fellowships including the Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship to EST, the Sundance Institute, and the New York Foundation for the Arts. Directing the reading is Mark Armstrong, Director of New Work for off-Broadway's Keen Company and the Executive Director for The 24 Hour Plays. Recent directing credits include Christopher Shinn's The Coming World, Lucas Hnath's Odile's Ordeal (both Williamstown) and Dan O'Brien's From Kandahar to Canada (EST).
