The New York Philharmonic Sets August 2014 Worldwide Radio Broadcasts

The August broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin -- begin with Music Director Alan Gilbert conducting the New York Philharmonic in the opening program of The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, featuring the 2014-14 season Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman as soloist. Over the course of the three-week festival Mr. Bronfman performs the complete Beethoven Piano Concerto cycle as well as the Triple Concerto with Principal Cello Carter Brey and Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow in the final Philharmonic appearance of his 34-year tenure. The festival also features the World Premieres of Lyra by Anthony Cheung and Songs by Sean Shepherd, both commissioned by the New York Philharmonic as part of The Marie-Jose?e Kravis Prize for New Music, pairing the master composer's concertos with new commissions now entering the repertoire.

DRAGON'S BREATH premieres at the 18th Annual New York International Fringe Festival on August 9th. Playwright, Michael C. O'Day makes his writing debut with this production. As an actor, he has appeared at the Public Theatre, Classical Theatre of Harlem, and the Paper Mill Playhouse, among other venues - most recently Judson Arts in the acclaimed revival of The Bonus Army. DRAGON'S BREATH is directed by Mikaela Kafka, known for her directing work with Centenary Stage and NJ Dramatists.

Joan Rivers was seen dancing along with cast of the David Byrne/Fatboy Slim hit musical HERE LIES LOVE, directed by Alex Timbers at the Public Theatre. Joan opted not for the seated balcony but actually brought flats and joined the audience on the disco floor where the show takes place. She loved the show so much that she raved about it two days later on Fox 5's 'Good Day New York' as well as at her new book signing at Barnes & Noble on Union Square, telling fans, 'If you see one show this year, you must see HERE LIES LOVE. Rivendell Theatre Ensemble (RTE) Chicago's only Equity theatre devoted to the work of women theatre artists, and Artistic Director Tara Mallen are proud to announce the extension of the Chicago premiere of Courtney Baron's Eat Your Heart Out, directed by Hallie Gordon, through July 12 at Rivendell's performance venue, 5779 N. Ridge Ave. The performance schedule is Today - Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays at 4 and 8 p.m. Please note: there are no performances Friday, July 4 or Saturday, July 5. The Public Theatre production of David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's musical Here Lies Love will open at the new Dorfman Theatre (formerly the Cottesloe) in London. Here Lies Love plays from Tuesday, September 30, 2014 to Thursday, January 8, 2015 with a press night on Monday, October 13.
