Joyce SoHo will present four world premiere collaborative works between emerging choreographers and composers, as part of SONiC (Sounds of a New Century), a new city-wide festival of 21st century music featuring work by more than 100 composers age 40 and under.
To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of September 11, 2001, Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) will take part in two free performances presented by The Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc. at 5 pm on September 10 and 11 in Nelson A. Rockefeller Park. This special presentation will feature performances by OSL with Paul Taylor Dance Company; the Limón Dance Company with Voices of Ascension; and additional artists to be announced. The program also will include a new work created by Jessica Lang. To kick off its 2011-2012 fall/winter season, The Joyce Theater is thrilled to present two one-week engagements by two of the world's leading flamenco artists from Spain, Israel Galván and Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenco. Israel Galván will open the season with a solo performance from September 20-25. From September 27 - October 2, Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenco, the company founded by Barrio in 1993 with her husband Artistic Director Martin Santangelo, will delight audiences with several pieces, including a New York premiere.

After the overwhelming success of last summer's presentation, the Gotham Arts Exchange returned to The Joyce Theater with the Gotham Dance Festival. Running through June 12, the Gotham Dance Festival presented six programs featuring ten choreographers - a who's who of North American modern dance, per say. The festival included the works of Brian Brooks, Monica Bill Barnes and Patrick Corbin to name a few. I had the honor of checking out the "Summer Sampler Matinee" on June 11. This particular program focused specifically on emerging choreographers. On the 11th, I saw the works of Ashleigh Leite, Julian Barnett and Sydney Skybetter.
