So many cabaret shows, so little time . . . to write reviews that is. During his almost two years as a cabaret reviewer, BroadwayWorld.com critic Stephen Hanks managed to do a pretty good job of writing critiques during a show's run or soon after the run ended. But this summer he just couldn't keep up. Finally, here are observations on 10 performances over the past two months.

Producer Clifford Bell (www.Cabarabia.com) brings an eclectic collection of the best of the best working in the Cabaret Scene-Brad Ellis of 'Glee' and 'The Glee Project', recent Emmy nominee for his work on Jason Segel's Muppets Song on 'Saturday Night Live', Eli Brueggemann, the newest musical director, composer and arranger on 'SNL' (www.elibmusic.com), Joanne Tatham, direct from 'Feinstein's At Loews Regency' in New York, with a preview of her new show 'CINEMA NYC: Music From Movies Made In Manhattan' (www.joannetatham.com), Kid Hollywood, a hot new up and coming band generating a lot of buzz (www.kidhollywood.net), and a special appearance by singer-songwriter Sarah White (soundcloud.com/sarah_white), tonight, August 5 at 8 p.m.

In New York City, we're fortunate enough to have access to a bevvy of theatre-related events -- many of which are free or low-cost -- to enjoy on the days we can't get to a show. Here are a few that I have hand-picked: the events about which I'm the most excited. These ones get the official BroadwayGirlNYC stamp of approval for the month of August.

Broadway Sings for PKD, a concert benefiting the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation, will be offered August 20th at The Duplex in Manhattan. The evening will feature musical theatre classics and 1950s bubblegum pop.

Profiles Theatre announces the Midwest premiere of Sweet and Sad by Richard Nelson, opening the company's 2012-2013 season. Sweet and Sad, directed by Joe Jahraus and featuring Co-Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox, runs August 17, 2012 - October 7, 2012 with the press opening on Friday, August 24 at 8:00 pm. Performances are held at Profiles newest venue, The Main Stage, 4139 N. Broadway.

Tonight, July 20th at 8pm a mixture of Broadway talent and nightlife personas will gather at Elmo is Chelsea to celebrate the 25th Year of Marti Gould Cummings, Brad Gardner, and Joey Contreras. This annual triple birthday event will feature some of NYC's brightest talents celebrating these three young men. Elmo is located in Chelsea on 19th Street and 7th Avenue.

Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) presents Gilbert & Sullivan's comic operetta THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, directed by Broadway veteran Terrence Mann, starring Sean Martin Hingston as the Pirate King, Steven Hayes as the Major-General and Connecticut native Diane Phelan as Mabel.

John Bucchino continues his summer series Second Mondays tonight, July 9th at 9:30pm at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre.
