American Blues Theater to Present HANK WILLIAMS: LOST HIGHWAY, 8/30-10/6

Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside and American Blues Theater, Chicago's second oldest Equity ensemble, are proud to announce the first production in American Blues Theater's "Legends and Legacies" season, Hank Williams: Lost Highway, by Randal Myler and Mark Harelik, directed by Damon Kiely, music director Malcolm Ruhl and starring Matt Brumlow as "Hank Williams," August 30 - October 6, at the Greenhouse Theater Center's Downstage Mainstage Theater, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave. Tickets are $19 for previews, $29 Thursdays and Fridays and $39 Saturdays and Sundays and $49 for opening night. Previews are Friday, Aug. 30 and Saturday, Aug. 31 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 1 at 2:30 p.m. Press/opening night is Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. The performance schedule is Thursday - Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. There are post-show discussions following Sunday performances beginning September 8. Cortland Repertory Theatre Presents BUDDY, 6/19-7/6

Cortland Repertory Theatre invites audiences to 'Rave On!' with its debut production of the international musical sensation 'BUDDY - The Buddy Holly Story'. Performances of this hit rock and roll musical will run from June 19 - July 6 with evening performances at 7:30. Matinees are available on June 21, 23, 26, 28, 30 and July 2 at 2:00 PM. Tickets may be purchase by calling 800-427-6160 or by visiting the CRT Box Office's new location at 24 Port Watson Street in downtown Cortland. Tickets are also available for sale 24 hours a day through the CRT website at www.cortlandrep.org. Some performances are already sold out, so CRT suggests calling early.

Apollo Theater Hosts BREAKIN' CONVENTION Hip Hop Dance Festival, Now thru 6/16

This summer, the legendary Apollo Theater is partnering with Sadler's Wells, the UK's leading dance house, to present the U.S. premiere of Breakin' Convention, an international Hip Hop dance theater festival based in London. The festival will celebrate its 10-year anniversary at the Apollo from today, June 13th - June 16th, bringing a taste of Hip Hop dance theater culture to Harlem. Emceed by Breakin' Convention's Artistic Director and Sadler's Wells Associate Artist, Jonzi D. and Hip Hop legend, MC Lyte, this pioneering international festival will bring individual dance artists, dance companies and emerging artists from across the globe as well as U.S. and local dance crews.

Nona Hendryx to Play Renberg Theatre, 7/12

The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center's Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center proudly presents rock/funk/R & B legend Nona Hendryx, the two-fisted, avant-garde alumnus of the groundbreaking vocal group Labelle ('Lady Marmalade'), in a high-energy, multi-media-techno mix of new works as well as her classic material ('Busting Out,' 'Why Should I Cry?'). Hendryx's performance incorporates cutting-edge music technology, including a Plexiglas tutu with built-in speakers, wireless remote-controlled visuals, and the wired-up ability to manipulate digital instruments. With powerfully principled lyrics wrapped in funky grooves, soulful vocals, and driving, rock-charged rhythms, Hendryx is once again discovering new artistic territory and ushering in the future.

Mama Foundation for the Arts to Present WE ARE! & ALIVE! this Fall

The Mama Foundation for the Arts proudly announces that two new musicals will open Off-Broadway this fall in Harlem: WE ARE!, an original musical about and starring the acclaimed Gospel for Teens Choir (first seen in an Emmy Award-Winning '60 Minutes' story), and ALIVE!, an original musical featuring a full company of performers who are age 55 and over. Both WE ARE! and ALIVE!, conceived, written and directed by Vy Higginsen and Ken Wydro, will join MAMA, I WANT TO SING: THE NEXT GENERATION and SING HARLEM SING in Repertory at The Dempsey Theater in Harlem (127 W. 127 St.). Performances for ALIVE! begin on Saturday, October 5th; performances for WE ARE! begin Saturday, October 12th. MAMA . . . will join the two new musicals in rep beginning Saturday, October 19th, and SING, HARLEM, SING will be performed on Saturday, November 16th. BLESSING THE BOATS: THE REMIX to Play TPAC, 6/27-30

BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, the longest operating performance venue in lower Manhattan, in partnership with Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC), presents blessing the boats: the remix, a re-imagining of an original play written and performed by Sekou Sundiata, performing on June 27-29 at 8pm and June 30 at 3pm at TPAC, Theater 2 (199 Chambers Street).

Shine and the Moonbeams to Release First Album, 6/18

NYC's Shine and the Moonbeams took the kindie world by storm in 2011 with a live performance at the annual Kindiefest conference and the release of a nationally acclaimed radio hit called 'High Five.' Since then, lead singer Shawana Kemp has taken her band and fans on a musical adventure, performing shows for enthusiastic crowds at NYC's Summerstage, Symphony Space and Carnegie Kids and recording a batch of original and hooky songs. The happy result is Shine and the Moonbeams, the band's first self-titled album release, available digitally and in hard copy on June 18, 2013 from CDBaby and other retailers.

THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR reunites audiences with the ever-merry, ever-scheming character Sir John Falstaff from Shakespeare's history plays King Henry IV, Part 1 and King Henry IV, Part 2, this time at the center of a comedy of his own. THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR plays May 4 through May 26 (press opening: May 4) at the Buriel Clay Theater at the African American Art and Culture Complex in San Francisco.
