Richmond Ballet is set to kick off its 30th Anniversary Season with the first installment of this year's Studio Series, Studio One, October 1-6, 2013, at the Richmond Ballet Studio Theatre with a new ballet from Philip Neal, and a popular favorite, Val Caniparoli's Bow Out. After a celebrated, 23-year career at New York City Ballet, Neal returns to Richmond once again to set a new original work, Phoenix Rising. Neal's world premiere will mark the fifth time The School of Richmond Ballet alumnus and Richmond native has set a new work for the Ballet's professional company. Bow Out, an eclectic contemporary piece – choreographed by Caniparoli, who for many years acted as the choreographer-in-residence at San Francisco Ballet – also makes a return to the Ballet's Studio Theatre in the 2013. With slick styling and boundless energy, Bow Out oozes cool and charisma.
The Apollo Chorus celebrates 142 years of making music as Chicago's oldest premier volunteer chorus with its 2013-2014 season, which features an exciting lineup of classical and contemporary concerts. The season begins with a free "Music in the Neighborhood" Concert on Sunday, November 3 at 3:00 p.m. at The Apostolic Church of God, 6320 S. Dorchester. The music continues in December with two performances of Apollo Chorus's signature rendition of Handel's Messiah on Saturday, December 7 at 3:00 p.m. at Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave., and Saturday, December 21 at 3:00 p.m. at Harris Theater for Music & Dance, 205 E. Randolph Drive. Choral Classics-Mozart's Great Mass in C & Dvorak's Te Deum will be performed Saturday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m. at University of Chicago's Rockefeller Chapel, 5850 S. Woodlawn Ave.; and the season finale Spring Concert, The Beatles & Friends, will be performed Friday, May 2 at 8:00 p.m. at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 126 E. Chestnut Street; and again Sunday, May 4 at 3:00 p.m. at First United Church, 848 Lake Street in Oak Park.

They all have been touched, in some way, by the inimitable promoter, agent and manager extraordinaire, Sid Bernstein. Mr. Bernstein passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in New York City, said his longtime friend, publicist Merle Frimark.
