Ruined, by Lynn Nottage, today won the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award (NYDCC) for Best Play of the 2008-2009 season. The Best Musical award was given to Billy Elliot, music by Elton John, and book and lyrics by Lee Hall. The award for Best Foreign Play was given to Black Watch by Gregory Burke. The selections were made at the 74th annual voting meeting of the organization today at the offices of Time Out New York in Manhattan.

The Fantasticks, 'the most child-friendly show currently playing in the theater district' (Terry Teachout, Arts Journal), invites kids to see the show for free at select weekend performances throughout February. Children age 16 and under will receive a free ticket and a free Fantasticks CD sampler with each paying adult for performances on Saturdays at 2 PM and Sundays at 3 PM and 7:15 PM. Hartford Stage, under the leadership of Michael Wilson, artistic director, and Michael Stotts, managing director, announced today that the Broadway hit comedy Dividing the Estate, by Horton Foote, directed by Wilson, will transfer to Hartford Stage in May 2009 to close the Tony Award-winning theatre's 45th season. The gospel musical drama Gee's Bend, which was to have been the sixth and final MainStage offering this year, has been postponed until next season.
