World renown British actor/playwright Ray Cooney will be performing the zany farce Cash on Delivery, written by his son Michael Cooney, on the mainstage of the El Portal in Noho December 3-20. Cooney performed Out of Order at the El Portal in 2001, and was a tremendous hit. In our conversation Cooney, who was bestowed the honor of OBE (Order of the British Empire) by the Queen, and wife Linda talk about the play, and among other topics, theatre and its importance in our world right now. Linda is a landscape painter and former actress, and her work will be exhibited in the El Portal lobby during the run of the play and on to January 1, 2016.

Due to popular pre-sale demand, a year in advance, Aurora Theatre Company announces that it will extend West Coast Premiere of Sarah Treem's (Netflix's House of Cards, HBO's In Treatment) thought-provoking THE HOW AND THE WHY, the third fully staged production to be performed in the company's second stage performance space, Harry's UpStage. The company will add an additional two weeks of performances to the original run dates. Oh What A Lovely War , originally produced by Joan Littlewood at the Theatre Royal Stratford East, is another example of this and is playing the final week of its UK tour at Birmingham Rep.
THE GRADUATE is an iconic American film that was a touchstone for an entire generation. It's a coming of age story about Benjamin Braddock's attempt to find his place in the adult world of the sixties. Anyone staging it lives in the shadow of the 1967 film and those indelible images and sounds. To be honest, I went in thinking that I would be hard pressed to think of a cinema piece that cried out less for a stage adaptation than this particular story. However, personally being long removed from both Charles Webb's 1963 novel and the film by Mike Nichols, I found that this piece actually stands on its own. It is quite different from both the novel and the film; but is, in and of itself, an entertaining evening.
